Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
Could you post a picture of what we're working with?
The means needed to bring your lenses back to life will depend on the initial condition of the lense. If you can't post any pictures, could you explain their current condition? |
Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
It's going to be tough to re-establish the shine that was initially on the lenses. If you are stuck on keeping the original lenses, I would attemp to use one of the lense restorer kits. They are generally used on front headlights that become oxidated, but it might 'brighten' the lense enough for you. Most lenses have cracks and complete discoloration that is unrepairable. For the money and time put in it might be cheaper to pick up replacements.
If you don't mind picking up repop lenses, they will give you the quality and shine of a brand new lense for little money. Check into classicparts.com or several of the board supporting vendors should be able to hook you up as well. |
Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
Blazer2007,you may want to try a product called Plastx made by Meguiars. You should be able to find it at your local auto parts store in the section where the wax and cleaners are,it only cost about $8.00.I used it on my 96 merc.with plastic headlight lenes that were clouded from the Fla. sun and age and it made the low beams look like high beams. All you do is rub it on and wipe it off.On a side note I have to give Cdowns the credit for posting his use and results of this product about a month ago.

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
what i have found that works for me is to wet sand the lens with 400 and clear the lens and it will look like brand new, good luck

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
I use 3M's "Finnesse It" rubbing compound and my paint buffer. I have had pretty fair luck at restoring the shine to plastic lenses with it.

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
i had recently re newed my tail lenses, all i used is an SOS pad, but it was mostly primer that i had to remove, anyways it looks great

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
X2 on wet sanding and the clear looks great. For the money though I would just replace them.

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
compound and a buffer works tits for me usually
|
Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
when you clear them you dont have to touch them again, buffing means you will have to buff again.

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
I use scale model sandpaper. It comes in a kit and goes from 3600 grit up to 12000 grit. I go through all of the paper til I get to the 12000 grit. I then use 3M Dark polishing compand to buff it to shine. Look brand new. Trevor

Re: how 2 restore taill. lenses
White toothpaste and an orbital pad, then buff with wax to a shine..
