It bothers me to see people selling restored classic Chevy Trucks at such a low price that it hurts the truck market. I know Chevy Truck guys don't want to put alot of money into a truck that if they ever go to sell it that they can not get some kind of return on it. I watch classic muscle car auctions and when a super nice truck that you can see they put tons of money into go for half of what it's worth. I think the Classic Truck market needs to step up so these trucks get the respect they deserve:chevy: I look on Ebay and see some real nice trucks going for very little money. I know the economy is soft now, but these trucks are slowly disappearing. It is getting hard to find a nice one that is not rusting away or been cut and chopped. I really love Chevy Trucks and just want to give them a better value than what I am seeing on the market.

Value is only determined by what people will pay for something, doesn't matter how much money or time you have invested. I'm with you bro. I think our trucks are undervalued, especially when someone puts some time into them but I don't think they will ever be as desirable as a 69 Camaro or a 57 Chevy.

Welcome to the board! I get what you are saying, but I think the whole market is way over inflated, especially musclecars. I like that these trucks are still relatively affordable. The super nice ones bring pretty big money, but there's no way they will ever be close to the cars. They were just too many made, and none are particularly rare. You'll find here though there is no shortage of guys spending lots of money on these trucks, and no shortage of guys that place these trucks above any other car/truck. You seem to care about these trucks, so you have come to the right place!;)

I think that the market will improve for these trucks as the overall economy improves, but there had to be a correction....seeing daily driver quality shortbeds selling for 25K was ridiculous. Now more people can get into the hobby.

What's really crazy right now is how cheap really nice projects have been selling for. I've seen several that had 15-20K worth of parts sit not selling for 5K. I just bought an abandoned project that was worth well over double in parts than what I paid for it but even the parts aren't selling for as much right now.

Perhaps you have never been one payment away from loosing your home or are trying to put food on a table. I'm not trying to be a jerk but desperate people do desperate things. When "life" happens and people need money really bad and really fast, they dump things that might not really matter in the big picture. I can't believe the stories I have heard about hard times lately. Sometimes people can't wait until the right buyer with the disposable income comes around. It's happening with Camaros, Mustangs and a lot of other makes/models. I really think the whole Barrett/Jackson thing got way out of control a few years back. Stuff is just now starting to settle to wards its real value which can only be determined by what someone is willing to pay.

I would rather see these trucks on the road or in the field working than sitting in a decked out garage collecting dust.

Who decided it was time to get all your money back out of you pleasure anyway?It never used to be that way.Everything,including trucks,is way over priced since the "buy-ins" caught onto the working man`s pleasures.I can`t wait until they hop onto the next bandwagon and toss these trucks to the side.These aren`t investments,they are vehicles.

Welcome to the board. As others have said, these trucks and anything else in life is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I put a lot more money into Old Yeller than what the market would ever pay me for it but Old Yeller is family, not just a truck, and is not for sale at any price.

I'm glad to see alot of the younger guys being able to afford these trucks and appreciate classic trucks first hand. For a long time classic cars and trucks were priced out of reach of the common working man. Not every one has a 6 figure disposable income. A lot of the trucks and cars are what I call wallet rides. They take them to a shop and pick them up when they're done. Thats not hot rodding. You build what you want the way you want or can and drive it.........thats hotrodding. I guess I'm old school sorry for the rant.

Welcome to the board! Like many others here, I am glad to see prices remain reasonably affordable on these old trucks. I would hate to see them priced out of reach of the average enthusiast.

It's not unusual for prices of various commodities to shoot up, often for no apparent reason... and eventually decline towards a more reasonable level. In the end, stuff is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay.

That's what i love about em. While they may have made millions, I still see less of em around even compared to chevelles and camaros. They have all the same potential to rock down the track, but with a boat load of practicality. Not to mention there are so many ways to go about restoring or customizing them.

I still see, on a daily basis, people asking ridiculous amounts for their old trucks. And most of them aren't worth half of what the owner is asking (in most cases). So I don't entirely agree on the market being hurt. If its been hurt at all, its from the inflated value people have in their heads from watching the high end auctions. Its amazing how much difference there is from high to low end asking prices. Yep, its not to hard to find someone asking +20k for a truck. And yep, I've see guys asking $500. Thats a big spread! But there are a lot of good trucks to be found for reasonable money, and yes, because of this economy, I think we are seeing more come around for decent prices. But I have also seen more and more muscle cars coming around for better prices as well. Self preservation in times like these is way more important than an old vehicle. Its also a great time to grab a truck or car that in the past 5-10 years you couldn't afford! Its the only way I could finally get a '67 small window short bed fleet I had been dreaming about for years. If you are looking for an investment, buy some stock. I will continue to put money into my truck so I can further enjoy it. And I enjoy working on it. I enjoy looking at it. I enjoy talking about it. I enjoy the camaraderie that comes along with it and fellow owners. And most of all, I enjoy driving and using it. You will never get the money out that you invest in parts and time. Its like owning a boat or golfing or any other hobby. It costs money to have fun sometimes. I agree, it is getting hard to find a nice one that isn't rusted our or cut up (and you will pay good money for them if you do) because people who have decent ones hold on to them because they are awesome trucks. And I would't say they are disappearing. Look around a little more...at least around here...there are tons of them parked or still driving around. Hot rods and trucks still working and everything in between. I see quite a few daily. You will find that we all agree that these trucks are under valued a lot of the time, but thats part of the appeal (and based on how much we have tied up in all our rides! haha ;) ). We all know something that most other people don't! Right!? Shhhhh...timeless design, American made steel, reasonable-readily available parts, easy to work on, thousands of aftermarket bolt ons, fun to drive, nice riding, practical...the list goes on. I invite you to look past the price tag and spend some time on this site and you will find that these trucks are not only great trucks, but are loved by a community of some of the greatest people around who are willing to help out one another at a moments notice. Now that...well...that there is just priceless. :metal:

The value of these trucks is all over the place like it was already mentioned. One thing is for sure that you will NEVER find a 500.00 camaro, chevelle etc yet you can find several trucks for that price. I love trucks and own a truck that performs as good as any other vehicle and it was built not bought.

I know the man that done this one and it is as nice as you will see! He sold it over a year ago for $30,000+...was it worth it? I offered him 25K for a couple of years up till the time he sold it, because it was worth that to me at that time. Value is all in the eye of the guy who wants to buy it! I havn't noticed the prime, high option trucks being sold at "steal of a lifetime" deals! By the way its on ebay right now and brought $28,000 last week...but is relisted due to a deadbeat bidder!!:lol:

I look at these old trucks and I would rather spend 20K to 30K for one of these rather than a new one thats a computer council (Let me specify restored to original or better). If it brakes you can fix it. If a bird lands on the hood of one of these old trucks the hood wont dent because it actually has metal in it. I sure cant see my 04 2500HD 4X4 on the road in 40 some odd years. JMO

I think the OP has a good point. We should all start snatching these deals up while they are cheap!
