I just used my hei just pull all the guts out if you would rather have the look of the msd than that's cool but I dont think there is any difference performance wise. and also if the msd box fails you can always put the guts back in the hei to get you home

Finally i caught up with my engine builder this evening, and he told me to leave the hei.He said the same thing you just said so if the box fails you can still get home.

I just went to the setup you are talking about. I'm actually more worried about other things failing on my truck than the ignition. I only went to it because of my tunnel ram. The HEI will be better on the street due to the vacuum advance.....assuming you were talking about the Mech MSD dizzy.

That depends on which model of MSD distributor you have. The 8360 does not require a box to run whereas the 8361 does. Both of those have a vacuum advance which you want on a street driven vehicle.

So long as your current hei isnt worn out. I would save the 300 bucks the msd costs and upgrade something else.

I spent it else where. They got a nice little 500hp 383 pump gas motor at the shop dart heads etc etc etc. Thinking about it!

how much for the small block? I used to have a fuel injected 383 that ran pretty good...
