67/68 suspension difference from 69/72
What is the difference in the frame and or suspension on 67 and 68's from 69-72's?
I see some lift kits that are only for 69-72 4x4. Also the DIY4x.com fgb52 says it is made for 69-72 chevys. So what is different? Or will everything fit the same? Thank you Robert |

anyone? I am thinking about buying a 68' chassis and would like to know if the fgb52 will work?

my understanding is that the '68 springs were wider. you might be able to modify your bushings to fit. I think the '67 was diffrerent still, but not sure why.

Re: 67/68 suspension difference from 69/72
I have researched and found that some people say 67-68 leafs taper from 3" to 2.5" on the axle perch to 3" to the shakle. If this is so I am assuming the frame it self is the same but the spring hangers are different.
Is this correct? Thank You Robert |

the steering arm is totally different as well and the gear box too. I have a 67 that has the 69-72 6" leafs on it with a newer steering box(69-91) and 78' 1/2 ton axles.

If you're doing the FGB52 kit, you're changing the springs on the front, correct? If so, then you can put whatever springs you want on there. The only thing to watch there would be the matching the spring perches on the axle, but I don't think that is an issue, I used lift springs for a 69-72 on the front with no problems.
The rear is where the real difference is, the springs are a different width and pin location, at least on the '67, and I think most '68's as well. If you're dealing with Kert at DIY4X already, he'll customize any of his stuff for you. He modified the shackle flip I put on the rear of my '67 without any hesitation. Hope this helps. -Finding my notes, here's what I have as measurements from my '67: Front springs 3" wide at eyes, 2 1/2" at spring perch, 44" eye to eye. Rear springs 3" wide at eyes, 2 1/2 at spring perch, 56" eye to eye, CENTER pin. |

Frame is the same expect it is not dimpled for p/s most likely. I did the FGB52 kit on my 68 suburban.

Re: 67/68 suspension difference from 69/72
The stock springs on the '67 are wider than the 69-72, so I had Kert make the shackle wider to accommodate them, and he welded on a spacer to the other side to match his bracket. Easier than having the bracket made a custom width.
