Progressive Insurance - poor review

Not sure who you guys use for Auto/Home Insurance but USAA doesn't handle Motorhomes so they sent me to Progressive last summer. After three attempts for them to get my paperwork correct I was still paying $2/month more than they quoted me. I have now sold my RV and since I didn't have the policy for one year they now say I owe a $30 cancellation fee!

I have since gone with Allstate for all of my insurance, it cost 2/3 of the price of USAA and has a decreasing deductable plan for every 6 months I go without an accident... I now pay $800 a year for two full size vehicles and $400 for the house (was $1100 and $650 with USAA).

I asked Prgressive to show me where I signed the statement about the cancellation fee, we'll see if I get it.

I price shop every year when renewal time comes up, I've checked with Progressive/Geico/Allstate/State Farm/Esurance and a few others. NONE can come no where close to what I pay with MetLife auto and home, I've been with them over five years now.....

USAA has some good coverage..
but USAA is not infact as government employee friendly as they say....

and there's NOWHERE to physically complain......

i hated having a bank accnt with them...
and their insurance never compared to my geico.

Progressive, Geico ect (they say low buck insurance) are only for people that have a bad driving record (speeding tickes, DWI'S, ect). If a fairly clean record Sate Farm, All state, Farmers, ect or the ones you want to have. I work in a collision shop and TRUST ME if you have you get what you pay for. Last year we had a huge hail storm role through my area (i have State Farm) and they came out no questions asked no hassle, new siding and roof. I had a check in a week. My neibors have Progressive and All State and both of them had to fight for almost 5 months to get them to replace there roofs (some shingles were missing). It the same thing with auto insurance. My vote would go for State Farm (may cost a couple $ more but whats stress worth if you ever have a claim).

I'm with Allstate, and that decreasing deductable accually costs you more per 6 mos. If you choose it. Try and get a quote without that and see if it goes down. I bet it will.....

I have been happy with Allstate though, well as happy as I can be for insurance anyways.

The only issue i've had is that they already have their body shops, which might not always be the best... not sure if you get to choose...

I've been with them for 10 years, and they just sent me my $1400 check for dropping their insurance, it's the member account savings that they only pass on once you leave the company...

You get what you pay for, good luck if you ever need to file a claim with allstate/pro/geico/etc. Ive seen a lot of shady dealings with insurance companies over the years in the auto biz. Now I work in the insurance biz and...lets just say I have State Farm but only because I cant have USAA. ;)

The cancellation fee is actually a policy fee which is fully earned in case you do not keep the policy full term. The insurance company is recouping their costs for issuing the policy. There are people who only keep a policy a month and depending on the premium the company may spend more issuing the policy than they actually made.

or if you're not happy with their service it's just another way to take your money, right?

We have 6 month policies in PA, I made it through that but they require membership for a year to avoid the fee... good riddens,

Have had USAA for 10+ years now and have never had a problem. In that time have had 2 or three claims and they always just sent me a check. They can't compete with our local Farm Bureau on the house though.

I’m with The Hartford for car, home and motor home insurance. The multi line got me a discount and some good value added benefits. The fact that The Hartford is well known for fair claim settlement and is financially stable, did play a big role in my choosing them over my previous, which made a huge noise for replacing my cracked windshield, though it was covered in my policy. I was forced to fix a far inferior quality than what I had earlier! I second 68 c10 ls2 …”whats stress worth if you ever have a claim”.

i don't have any problem with progressive and they have treated me fairly. my insurance per month which is liability
is 83.41 a month and i think that is a great price for being 19 years old and state farm ripped me a good one when i paid 149.00 a month.

I have had USAA for 10+ years here too... made 2 claims... not a single problem. They also are the best in homeowners insurance for me as well.
