Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

Can it be done? With some heat\lube can it be done

Im working on my blazer tank filler and cant get my muffler man to reduce my 2" filler down to 1 3\8. Closest he can get it to is 1 1\2". So can I slip it on or what guys? Im really thinking about just making the filler come thru the bed floor. (already got the bed on/and notched). Will I have to do anymore fabricating than cutting the hole in the floor? thanks!!

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

i would just check the ID (inner diameter) of the hose and make sure it's at least the same size as the OD (outer diameter) of the tube. you are probably going to have to use some sort of petroleum product to get it to slip...or a nice soapy water with a 2:1 soap to water ratio at least. I'm thinking this is gonna be a pain in the neck. Get video and post it up :)

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

lol

well I cant find another way to pair the up, outside of taking the gas tank off PITA and welding a diff. tube to the existing neck and reinstalling tank with bed on..

id rather take my chances with the jar of grease and the hose lol

so yall think'll work? I was going to make a fuel door in the bedside but i just dont wanna hack up a good bedside and mess up, so for now its a bed floor filler...gee im sunburnt and now going to work on the truck ouch THANKS

i'm sure there is about to be a fair amount of cursing in your near future if you attempt this...can't hurt to try i reckon...you're going to have to lube the filler neck and the inside of the hose i wonder if there's a hook method you can try by hooking some wire thru the ends of the bottom of the tube and pull from the inside...just a thought. try not to tear the tube...that's gonna be the tricky part if you take it that route

i'd try putting the end of the hose in boiling water// it may help but those hoses normally are reinforced with metal in them and dont have alot of give to them

Check a marine supply store. They usually have that odd size fuel hose.

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

I've run into a similar problem before. My local auto parts store carries a large assortment of exhaust adapter pipes. They are usually about 3" long. They change in diameter usually 1/4" to 1/2" from one end to the other. This may help. Some welding would be required on the filler tube to fit the two pieces together, but its better than pulling the tank.

Wholesale marine has the deck fill with an 1 1/2 in neck. In fact, all marine deck fill fittings for water, gas or diesel use inch and a half hose. It's polished stainless too and you can order on line for delivery to BFE. Or Canada, even!

Ouch. That totally sucks. I hope you got all his info. If his tags were expired I'd have to wonder about his insurance.

hopefully its fixable...cant tear into it till insurance sees it...

hopefully frame is straight

I'll def. need a bedside/or whole bed and a left trailing arm, maybe a rear axle depending on condition....

and if frames bent swb here we come lol

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

Sorry to see that your truck got hit. Hopefully they will treat you right. I ran into the same problem on my filler, but I was trying to go from 1.5" at the filler to 2" at the tank. I got a adaptor from NAPA, but you could also get a muffler shop to expand a piece of 1 3/8" exhaust tubing to 1.5" on one end to use as a adaptor. You may even have to get a couple of them to get to the size that you want. I've done that and it only takes them a minute to do.

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

This stotally sucks. I would put money on the fact he has no insurance, but you do, so its your insurance companys problem. Dont let them strong arm you, "YOU ARE THE VICTIM" on this!!!!! Get that police report in the morning and get that claim opened asap! Make sure you are ok as well, you might want to go get checked out just to make sure, hate to see an injury creep up after you sign the waiver when you get paid for the repair!! Your axle is done, drivline and possibly transmition tail, bed is trash, your new tire, rim, cab is smudged and out of square. I hate to say this but, push for having it totaled and buy it back for parts. You go and find your own repair shop and nobody cheap and no trypical slow rod shops that take forever, and use their estimates. The insurance will have to cover transport costs to take it for those quotes.

best of luck,

Matt

Man that sucks!!!! hope you have uninsured motorist on your policy. Chances are he didn't have insurance. Lets hope he did. I will still file with your insurance company. Just to get things started.

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

Well im about to get in the shower and head that way i'll keep yall posted.

Everyone at coffee this AM (went with pops down to the local restruant to chill with the ol farmers) all the farmers said that farm breau was good and they were almost positive you HAVE to have uninsured motorist if you just get liabilty..

push to have it totaled..hmm..

how much will it cost to buy it back....

Theres a local repair shop in town (pretty $$ looking, and I talked with the owner awhile back he is doing a frame off on a 67-72..) May go there for a couple estimates.

Re: Can I squeeze 1 3\8 hose over a 1 1\2 tube?

Farm bruro(sp) is decent but I have had bad experinces with one particular adjuster. He would make you want to choke him. But then again, I worked with another from FB and he was just as nice as can be. So sometimes insurance companies get bad raps because of there employees.
I hope it all works out for you. Oh and I'll about guarantee they'll want total it out. But you can buy it back but I not sure what the percentage they ask for when it comes time to get it back.
