Truck wont start HELP ????
On Sunday I started my truck and it ran for two minutes and then I heard a clunk and it shut off and I have replaced the hole coil, cap, rotor, plugs, wires and carb and it still wont start. I have even dumped gas down the carb and it just cranks. the cranking is strange though. It will crank and all of a sudden it will stop. Do you think that it is the starter?
Thanks in advance Jerr ------------------ New Project

Which truck? the 83? have ESC in it ?
If it has ESC, is the oil pressure switch good? |
It is the 83, but it doesnt have the original engine in it. It has a mid 80's monte carlo engine. The comuter is not hooked up either.

Check to see it your rotor is turning constant with the engine, could have had a timing chain jumping gears. then see if it getting spark. Let su know how you make out

I still cant get it to start.....urg
My brother was able to see if it is getting spark tonight and it isnt.....why? I replaced the coil and just about the whole starter system except for the starter. Right now when I try to start it, it will attempt to turn over and seeze, the then I try again and it will turn over then, but weekly. Thanks Jerr |
have you made sure the distributor is getting power, if you have no spark at the plug you need to start moving back thru the ignition system
maybe you do not have a wire hooked up securely after swapping cap, maybe one just fell off or is shorting out somewhere before it gets to distrib. also watch all that cranking it does not take to long to drain your battery that way do you know where the clunk sound came from |
I am in the process of checking the wires now. I think the clunk was my carb breaking. After the clunk when I tried to start it right away it wouldnt so I looked under the hood and the gas was shooting out of the carb and not in. That is what I think the clunk was.
Thanks Jerr |
