Anyone have a lead on the original factory 4 speed 1 piece rubber floor mat? Or who makes a close to original aftermarket looking mat?

About 20 years ago I bought one from Golden State Pickup Parts. It was of excellent quality, looked perfect, and fit like a glove. Unfortunately they don’t list the item in their current catalog. Sometime around five years ago I pulled the automatic and installed a T10 4 speed requiring a new mat. I generally purchased my parts from Chevy Duty or American Classic Truck Parts, and for whatever reason I bought my current mat from American Classic Truck Parts.

It fits fine, but the quality is terrible. The surface is covered with cracks as if the mold was too cold, or the rubber compound was of poor quality. It looked the same the day it came out of the package, and should have been rejected and scrapped rather than sent to a customer. Unfortunately I lived 40 miles from town at the time and it was too inconvenient to send it back so it went in the truck. I wouldn't buy another one from them unless I could see it in person first. The defects can be seen pretty easily:

The American Classic Truck Parts mat for the 64-66 4 speed Big Hump has been DISCONTINUED! So, for the guy wanting an original appearence, what to do? That was a REALLY thorough reply thanks again!!

I'll check when i get home tonight, but i think i bought mine from Classic Parts of America. ( the old "Chevy Duty" company). Seems like is was around $85 or so. That was about two years ago though. I had the orig 4 speed so the floor pan was that "high hump" style also.

Chevy Duty still shows the large hump 64-66 mat listed for $85:

The online LMC catalog does NOT list a high hump 64-66 version.

I'm just amazed to see a rubber floor mat with a price tag near or over $200.

Brothers shows the item, but notes the pattern is no longer correct for a 64-66:

Bowtie Bits also shows them, but only one version for all 60-66, so it's probably not correct either.

For a "correct" restoration searching eBay for an NOS original may an option, or post a wtb ad on one or more forum sites.

Hello - I wonder who was making the old repro. that the "good" places like Golden State used to have?

All the places that are just dealers now seem to be dropping them...

So I checked..still in the online caalog..and it has the 2 differnt year groups (not a total junky 1-size/all)...

but you'd have to get it and see if it's authentic.

Or get past the counter help and talk to one of the main guys like you used to be able to do there...ask them directly...:

Sir - surface composition is bad, but the details looks sharp in the casting...and it's been there for 5 year / Not too worn.

But it's definitely not good...

Did you ever think of try removing it, scrubbbing/degreaing it, using adhesionpromoter and the satin black SEM rubber / vinyl coating?

It flows realy wel, even in the spray cans.

It's kind of amazing...
Just for fun, pull it out and do this with the back, if you're handy.

It'll surprise you, I think. NOt just - "I dunno - might work"...I have used it on similar things. No one knows it was sprayed.

Cost about $40 for adhesion promoter in a spray can, and 2 cans of SEM.

Thanks for the input. I've never heard of the product, so I'll check it out. The mat hasn't deteriorated at all, it looks like the same dry lake bed it did when new. $40 to "restore" it would certainly be cheaper than a replacement.

~ 64-66 low hump only

It would appear from the photo that these mats cover the entire cab floor, not just from the seat forward like the factory stock mats did. Anybody bought one of these and can vouch for the quality?

I'm still considering one of those John, but was wanting to hear feedback as well before spending the money since my truck is a 64. I'm not 100% sure if there were subtle differences between the 60-63 floor pans vs. the 64-66's.

I bought one of the original looking repros about two years ago just to be safe. I wanted to get one before they disappeared entirely. Great fit, but it is also covered with the fine cracks. I assumed this was due to a worn out original mold that was being pushed beyond it's normal life. This is just a guess, but it makes perfect sense. So, if someone wants an original looking mat, they are going to have to settle for one with mold crack lines, or find an early production NOS mat. ...Good luck on that!.
For the past few years, I've been looking for an NOS second row floor mat for my 65 suburban with no luck at all. I would pay nearly any price, but now I'm thinking they just don't exist.

Guess I'll just do 80/20 loop carpeting. Still 60's.... just not as good as the rubber floor mat.

Dont do it! A cracked looking rubber mat is better looking than any carpet. Remember it an OLD TRUCK! Just my opinion. :metal::metal::metal:

I was talking Friday with my old Boss from the local Chevy dealership, about what is still available for these old truck ( which is about nothing ). I told him I remember when we worked together selling parts at the dealership and I had ordered new floormat for like $28, new windshield rubber for like $18, new door rubber seals on the cab, for like $12, new fenders were $150 each..... He laughed and said yea, but that was 25 years ago! like back in the 1980's! alot has changed since the 80's

I just dont think 25 years is that long, but in the Dealership World of keeping parts available I guess it is.

Just wish I would have known and just bought up everything to do a couple trucks..... but I was just a teenage kid fresh out of high school, with a wife and baby on the way... I was doing good to have the money to buy what I did, without the employee discount ( which was 10% over cost, I probably couldn't have bought what I did )
