Help me keep my 6 lugs....(wheel choices needed)

Well I'm real close to pulling the trigger on a 4.5/6" drop with front discs/booster for the new 1969.:metal:;)

There is no way in hell the truck will roll on the current wheels/tires once she is broght closer to earth. I really want to keep the original 6 lug set up (I like 6 spoke wheels to hide the rear drums) but I need to find some wheels with the correct back spacing and width to work.

I would love some input from the back spacing gurus.

Here is what I'm looking for...(I would prefer not to run spacers but will if need be....nothing huge)

20x8.5" in the front that works with the new spindles.

20X10" or 22X??" that will work with the drop and the 1969 rearend.

The truck needs to tuck a little tire and look low when done. Not quite sure on color yet. I would like something that would look good with the yellow/white and work with a future paint choice.

Is there anything half way resonably priced that will work (no custom $4,000 wheels) and look good?

Here are two that I am looking at....

Liquid metal wingmans.... (20x8.5 and 22 x9.5)

http://www.liquidmetalwheel.com/wheel.cfm?id=460#

Boss 330 (20x8.5 and 22x9)

http://www.bossmotorsports.com/wheel...ecs.cfm?id=355

Thoughts?

Other suggestions?

Should I go 5 lug?

I have a 69SWB with a 4/6 ECE drop. I just installed boss 315 20x8.5 w/ 5.5" BS. It required a 2" spacer for the rear ($65 on ebay). If you go with a 9.5 rear wheel, you may not need such a big adapters. Tires are falken 275/45/20 all around. I'm in the process of switching coils to achieve a 4.5" drop and not the current 4". I first pic I ran 15x8 rr and 15x7 frt on 31x10.5 tires with no rubbing.

Are you running a spacer on the front?

Same back spacing front and rear? Front turned out almost perfect

Looks good I think that extra 1" in the front will set her off.:metal:

Re: Help me keep my 6 lugs....(wheel choices needed)

So what rear would work better for me?

3302-0962 22x9 Super Finish Black 6 on 5.5 6.25 back spacing

3302-0966 22x9 Super Finish Black 6 on 5.5 5.75 back spacing

What would give me the fatter rear lip?

Re: Help me keep my 6 lugs....(wheel choices needed)

All wheels have the same BS and I'm not using any specares in the front. With the tires I chose, I have about a .75" gap I'm hoping to close with the lower spring.

Re: Help me keep my 6 lugs....(wheel choices needed)

the later will give you the most lip but I think you will still need to add a small spacer so the tire does not rub in the inside.

It will look perfect once that happens.

I really like the look of your truck. I wish they would make a 6 lug that was 20x10 with the correct bs.

do you have a link to the spacers you used?

This is the ebay store sellers name: gr8tseller888 you will have to request the 7/16-20 studs as his normally come with 12mm.

Re: Help me keep my 6 lugs....(wheel choices needed)

Money is a huge factor for me too, so custom offset wheels are out of the question. I have 6 lugs and don't want to change the rear (since the front is pretty simple/cheap), plus I like the symmetry of the 6 spokes. I've seen board members running a 4.5" bs with a 20x8.5 on the front and 5" bs with a 20x10 for the rear, so I used that as a baseline, and then looked around. Cheaper rims can be found in 20's and 22's online, but come in stardard mm offsets that range from 12-18 mm. In order to run these you would need a spacer.

EXAMPLE for 20x8.5 fronts:
The 20x8.5 with 4.5" bs is a -6.3 mm offset.
The 20x8.5 wheels off bigwheel.net has a 13 mm offset.
To set the 13 mm offset wheel in the same spot as the 4.5" bs wheel, you would need a 19 mm spacer which about 3/4 of an inch.

EXAMPLE for 22" rear (which typically only come in 9.5" wide):
The 22x10 with 5" bs is a -12 mm offset
The 22x9.5 wheels on bigwheel.net is a 15m offset
To set the 13 mm offset wheel in the same spot as the 4.5" bs wheel, you would need a 27 mm spacer which just a little over 1 inch.

I don't know what is acceptible for a spacer as far as safety, and saw a couple people with bad experiences with them. I also don't know how accurate the calculators are and haven't attempted to mount anything like this, but I figured it was worth researching since I'm not at the point to get wheels just yet anyways.

Bigwheels.net is an example of places that sell decent rims for cheap. I happened to find 2 sets of 22's that I really liked that were under $300 per wheel.

Hope this helps...

I have those same spacers with my 17" FJ Cruiser rims. they work great.

take a look at 72blckbuty's (Nate) truck. he has one of the cleanest set of big roller, 6 lug rims I have seen in a looooooong time! and they look period correct, without too much bling.

They are extremely nice and look great. There also quite a bit more than I want to spend at $450-500 a rim.....

I would like to stay closer to a $1500 WT package;)

I think a $1500 package would be hard with a 20/22 combo, but should be fairly easy with a 20 all around and maybe possible with 22 all around.

The rim shop by my house sells "Velocity" wheels and my brother picked up a set of 22's for his Tahoe w/ tires for $1,300. They make this wheel, the the U2-55 that's pretty clean. The picture looks wavy, but in person they are really smooth.

i know kinda ugly but economical $100 craigslist 245 70 15 tires with good tread. better than white spokes. have thought about powder coating old spokes and puting trim rings and centers on

Opinions are what make this place great....:)

On the flip side you might like something that I wouldn't even have considered. What 6 lugs that fit our truck do you like?

There is no doubt the Coys,Torque thrusts and Boss 338 work on our trucks. I persoanlly would never run them becuse thats the stereotypical hot rod/muscle look even though I think they look great becuse imho they were played out 10 years ago.;):waah:

I want modern/classic ( g machine)

I would love to rock an intro, boze or custom bon speed wheel but its not in the cards....

I think Nate has a 4.5in b/s on the rear Vintec rims, no spacers. He has the narrow rear as does your new truck, if it's the factory rear.

Re: Help me keep my 6 lugs....(wheel choices needed)

Oh, and the black rims would look real nice on there.

I'm in the exact same situation, and ended up with the same choices as well - funny. I want more tire in the rear than 8.5" and don't want to deal with spacers and incorrect offsets either...it's so frustrating not finding anything that's under $500+++ that fits this criteria - sucks...

Price won't matter on a wheel package is the BS isn't right. I'm running 4.75" BS on my 20x10s, and that is the least amount of BS you will want to run. No rubbing on the 295/40's.

4.75" BS just to be correct, without any spacers; and as Charlie mentioned, I am running the stock rearend.

The biggest thing that I can recommend to to lower it, then measure your truck for the specific wheels you want. Each truck is different in its own way, so BS for my truck might not work for yours.

Good takes....

I will deffinetly be oredeing/insta;lling the drop/brake upgrade before I order wheels/tires.

They will need to come shortly becuse I will have fender rubbage issues with the current wheels and 275/50/15 tires(28"). I need my over all tire diameter to go up about 2" to look right in the fender well.

Can anyone answer this question?

Is the lip on a 22x9 with 5.75" back spacing have a bigger lip then a 20x8.5 with a 5.5" back spacing?

I am completely back space inept...lol
