Serp setup? why not 5row setup?
Theres soooo many people that have converted to the serp. setup.
Have ya'll forgot that chevy made cars/trucks /w/ flat belt same concept as the v belt, but flat 5 (?) row... I dont know make/model, but they made them. This avoids the reverse pump issue....peak around at your local j/y any one know the make/model/year? |
Re: Serp setup? why not 5row setup?
It was only the alt belt that was the 5 rib, the rest were regular v-belts. Started in mid 80's and was phased out in '88, maybe later on the big blocks.
I have no problems with the setup, I have several with them. Oh, this includes cars too. Even my fwd '86 Celebrity uses the setup. |

Re: Serp setup? why not 5row setup?
That setup was really common on 80's cars. They were all pretty much alternator only. They all used another v-belt or two to run everything else. Very limited benefit to swapping over that setup. If your going through the effort theres really no reason not to just do it completely and run the modern serpentine setup with alum brackets and reverse flow water pump. Chances are whatever your doing the swap on could use a new water pump anyhow.
