Muffler of Choice?
What mufflers do guys prefer and why. I'm not sure what to put in the 66. I have 40 series Flowmasters in the Camaro that sound reallly good but they're not really cheap. Looking forward to y'alls opinions.

Porter's, look 'em up, they have sound clips on their web site.

Re: Muffler of Choice?
I run Borla mufflers on all of my hot rod projects, including my Super Gas car. They have one of the best sound-attenuation to minimal-flow-restriction ratios.

Re: Muffler of Choice?
I'm a fan of Magnaflows, myself. Good flow, and not terribly noisy, assuming you stay away from the smaller ones.

Re: Muffler of Choice?
I have posted video clips of my exhaust in my build thread. They are Brockman steel packs. I am enjoying them more every day. They are handbuilt by Brock himself and only cost me 75 for the pair including delivery.

Here's an earlier thread with a lot of feedback:

Re: Muffler of Choice?
I have a Magnaflow on my V6 '01 S10 and it sounds great. At idle it has a soft low rumble and very little drone inside the cab while driving. When you get on it, it wakes up quite a bit. It also fires off a couple of cool "pops" when I let off the gas. With as good as 1 sounds on a V6 I will almost definitely be putting 2 on my V8.
Whatever you do, stay away from Bank's. My buddy spent $600 on an exhaust and one of the welds on the muffler case cracked within a year. He's contacted them numerous times about what should be a warranty repair/exchange and they still haven't done anything about it. It's been about 2 years now. |

Re: Muffler of Choice?
My muffler of choice is Spintech. I just like them. They are not cheap and have a sound all to themselves.
Corsa also has universal mufflers now, and I know they are not cheap. |
Re: Muffler of Choice?

Re: Muffler of Choice?
I have a soundclip of my Sons 64 Shortwide if your interested. The Mufflers are Thrush and are the equivilent to the 40 series flowmasters, but I dont think they are as loud. This Exhaust System is on a 69 327 with Shorty Block Hugger Headers. Take a listen if your interested. The string is called ( Exhaust System is going in on the 64 Shortwide)

Re: Muffler of Choice?
back in the mid 90's my buddies and I ran a bit of test of our own on mufflers. we used a couple of different cars. One was a 1974 Datsun 240Z with 440 mopar motor in and one was my car a 1985 Grand Prix with a 1968 Pontiac 400 RAIII spec. with RAIV cam. I had some two chamber flowmasters that were 3"in and 4"out. They were great from my car which was running high 12's but the Datsun (MODAT) was running high 9's and they were really loud on that motor. He put some 3" Dynomax mufflers on next which were half the noise level and they didn't hurt his ET over the Flowmasters. I know lots of guys that swear by Borla but for cheap performance mufflers that aren't too loud the Dynomax isn't a bad deal.
