Re: good tires for the cause???
I've heard nothing but positives (other than price) on Les Schwab Open Country MT last longer than any mud tire out there quiet on the street and aggressive in the mud. Read a review by off-road magazine dumping praise on how great a tire it is. I think they are the same as Toyo Mud terrains

Re: good tires for the cause???
Although my K5's tires are far from big, I find they are very unnoticable with the top off - in fact my K5 is much quieter overall when the top is off.

Re: good tires for the cause???
I'm running bf goodrich all terrain's. They seem to give plenty of road grip and work well in the snow. I've never taken the truck off-road and they aren't a very aggressive looking tread, but they are smooth and quiet.

I also have used them off road without complaints. Granted I don't go rock climbing, but they work find for the tinkering around that we do. |

Re: good tires for the cause???
I just put a set of Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac's in 33X12.50R15 on my 75 Blazer, pretty aggressive but quiet on the highway so far. Pretty good price from America's tire I think, $166 here locally. Time for some off-road trials

Re: good tires for the cause???
I'm running BF's all-terrains. They've run well on the highway. I've been in some pretty sloppy stuff and I've been surprised as how well they actually did. No rocks down here (I wish), just nasty ole clay mud. They came with it and I'm happy with them. But when it comes time, I'll go bigger (32's now) bigger and more aggressive, because you should;-)

I was paying close attention to all the street stock classes which require a DOT tire per class rules. 99% of the class was using the BFG all terrains. I figure if it's that popular for pulling a sled of weight down a dirt track they would be good enough for my street truck ;) I've used them ever since on 3 different builds. For more aggressive tires I liked the Goodyear MTR's that came on my wifes Rubicon. |
Re: good tires for the cause???
I was running Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, the were loud but not to bad, I will be swapping over due to the fact my Juvenile delinquent nephew decided to slash all four of those!I am going to start running the BF Goodrich all terrain KO's I just ordered them Monday from JC Whitney, the sale expired Monday for 15% off! got all 4 15X12.5 35 for $690 out the door. The only draw back was they will not deliver till the third of May!Had them on my old blazer and they were awesom tires!

Re: good tires for the cause???
I am running mud kings on mine and they handle mud and snow and rain great with very little tire noise... Bfg's a re a great tire but most people dont seem to get many miles out of them but costco has em for a pretty good price...

Re: good tires for the cause???
i should be clear on the blazer. its a on road rig.. wont see any snow or mud... ok maybe a little mud. im just going for the look. its a pavement princess lol. it has a 6 inch lift, i just want some tires that look aggressive and are not over loud. the tires i have on now are too loud. when the tops off i have to yell at my girl friend when im driving at 70km. i would need to have over a 1000 watt stereo so i could hear it over my tires.

Re: good tires for the cause???
You got a vote here for the toyo m/ts, I have a set on both my rigs. I have a set of bfg m/ts on our tahoe and hate them. They are noisy and wear crappy. As far as the toyos go I love them, ride smooth, cant hear them at all and they perform well. I got about 3000 miles on my 38s and still look new.

PS. I sure would hate to be the one to clean your blazer after you're done with it. Wow what a mess  |
Re: good tires for the cause???
If going with a bigger wheel like a 18, I recommend Toyo's or Nitto's, but Nitto's are expensive. I personally like the look of the BFG Mud Terrains the best, and have run them. They sound a lot like MTR's going down the road, as I have them on my Rubicon's too. My BFG's were 35"s and I have some 37" MTR's going on my truck next and my rubicon has 285x75x16 MTR's (33"s).

If you let them get cupped the least bit from lack of rotation they became noisy,,,and there is no going back after that. I rotate every oil change now and they seem to stay quiet. |
Re: good tires for the cause???
I wasn't saying the MTR's are really loud. They are about normal for mud terrains. They are a little bit louder than an all terrain is what I am saying. People were saying the BFG's were really loud and I didn't have a problem running those. I rotate my tires frequently, but they are a little louder than normal tires. You will run into a little bit of extra noise no matter what mud tire you choose as it's just a bargain with the beast. Also, if your tires are oversized, they tend to be louder than the smaller tires. Does your wifes Rubicon still have stock MTR's (245's) on it? I ran those too for a little bit before the lift, and they were a tad quieter. If you want loud, haha, I have had 44" Boggers on my 96' before and those babies hummed. Now it has 49" Iroks and it is quieter than those boggers. With the boggers, it was hard to hear the 454 with 3" exhaust over the tire hum. Trevor

Re: good tires for the cause???
I put the 35x13.5x18 pro comp extremes on my 07 chevy and they are quiet, wear evenly and I have 32,000 miles on them and still have half tread left.
