To drop or not to drop
Its been a year and a half since I finished my truck, I'm getting ready to make a few changes like the seats, I'm going to install seats out of an 04 silverado, I'm also debating whether to drop it a few inches or just leave it stock hight, let me know what you guys think.

Re: To drop or not to drop
leave her be, she's a beautiful truck just as she sits. a truck becomes a car when you drop it in the weeds and then what is the point of having a truck? it's nice sitting up high and having the ground clearance to go down dirt roads, etc. a stock 2wd is the best compromise and it just looks "correct" to me. i'm a young guy totally into the street scene and modifying vehicles, but laying them in the weeds just seems stupid for a vehicle that actually gets driven. a mild drop would be good if you use it mostly for shows or do slalom races like they showed on truck's (powerblock) awhile back. around here extreme drops would mean leaving my floorboards behind at the first speed bump or frost heave and the only alternative would be fabbing up an air system which adds a lot of weight and complication to the whole truck (compressors, etc) and can be prohibitively expensive. i put big sway bars and polyurethane bushings on my suburban and it handles great but still feels like a truck which is what i bought it for (besides going to car shows). just think, nearly everyone with a customized, detailed truck is slamming it, so why not be different?.....just my 2 cents.....

Drop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: To drop or not to drop
Looks awesome as is. But a small drop would look even better. And keep it driveable. Mine isn't slammed, but do run into issues once in awhile. Need some interior and engine shots!

Re: To drop or not to drop
watch this video, this how a classic truck should look. As the majority have said"Drop it".
And as for capev86's comments, I don't know about the rest of you but I'm not sinking my time and hard earned money into my truck to haul crap in a brand new wood bed, or go down dirt roads. And air rides don't add enough weight that a well built motor is going to suffer or notice any decrease in acceleration. And cost wise they are not out of the park either. But everyone gets to make up their own mind, that's the joy of freedom of expression. |
Re: To drop or not to drop
Great video!!! As far as my.02 goes, look at my avatar. Air ride will give you the luxury to raise the truck in case you need to go down a dirt road or need to clear something.

Re: To drop or not to drop
Thanks for your Suggestions guys, I love the the way the truck looks in the video, I use this truck as a daily driver so if I drop it it might be a 2/4 drop nothing major. Here are a few pics of the engine and interior.

Re: To drop or not to drop
beautiful truck there JCA1972 I would drop it a bit also, but thats because I love the looks of them dropped, each and everyone has their own taste, its hard to always go by what others say to do or suggest unless your really into that.
Also love that truck in the video that is one mean truck. |

Re: To drop or not to drop
i think it would look great with a 2/4 or a 4/6 and still be able to drive it anyway you would now
and that is a awesome video |
Re: To drop or not to drop
If the only thing you're hauling is a$$ then drop it. Otherwise, leave it be.

Re: To drop or not to drop
Anyone know what the drop is on the truck in the video JJ's Sierra Grande posted?
Thanks in advance. |
Re: To drop or not to drop
I'm with cape. Leave it stock. I actually did a 2/4 lower on my truck recently. It was that way for less than a day... seriously for only about 3hrs. Disliked it so much I spent the next few days after that putting it back to stock height. And my truck isn't even all that much to look at to begin with!
Lowered looks good in many applications, but when a completely stock classic rolls by it gets my thumbs up. When I see another "resto-modified" classic, my friends and I automatically think, "Meh. It's just like everyone elses." |
Re: To drop or not to drop
Depends on usage. if it is your hot rod and will not be used to haul much or tow, then drop it. However, if you plan to haul anything heavy or tow, then leave it stock. I plan to lift my 68 C10 because I really want to use it as a truck to haul stuff and tow. Add a locker to the diff and take it to the desert for some real fun.

Re: To drop or not to drop
It is a very nice truck just the way it is, but I think it would look even better with a mild drop.
