73 up standard vs auto on gas
Ive been tossing around the thought of buying a 73 up thats 4wd. Maybe even a 3/4 ton 4*4. Is there a big difference in gas mileage on these between the two transmission types ? I prefer automatic for what I do, but a manual would be nice if it saved several miles to the gallon. Is it true that the 3/4 model uses several more mpg vs the 1/2 model ?

ive never noticed that much of a difference in the older trucks in mileage from half to three quarter tons either stick or automatic the three speed chevy desperately needs a fourth gear at high speed ( highway speed ) and it makes the gas mileage lag

my mileage is bout 12 on the highway/10 towing trailer thats loaded/6 or less plowing snow.....i don't think 3/4..1/2 ton makes much differance in the gas its how you drive it,or use it..

What can I expect from a 1978 3/4 ton, 4 wheel drive, 400 small block/ turbo ? Around 10 you think ? Also is a truck like that worth 1800, I dont know the miles or condition.

I have a 1983 1/2 ton 2wd with a stock 350 (edelbrock qjet and manifold) with the granny gear 4-speed tranny. Im heavy on the gas and get around 11-14 mpg city. I do a little better on highway, but at slower speeds then normal because of the 1:1 final gear. I go about 60-75 and 75 is pushing it, rpms get to around 3500-4000, I dont like that.
