How to re-upholtser your seats
I'm thinking hard about re-doing my seats to my burb after I found out how much it would cost to have someone else do it. Is there a link (couldn't find one) or somewhere that gives detailed instructions (with pictures) on how to do your seats yourself?
Thanks and any other advice will be appreciated as well. Joe |

JoeKan... I think for the most part, and with the numerous replacement covers available, you can pick up exta foam and re-upholster any seat.
One thing I will say is that upholstery is expensive because for it to be done right, it takes a lot of experience and expertise, resulting in a high price. |

Here's one example after searching with google with the following keywords. The info is out there if you're ambitious enough to search and slog through the results.
auto seat upholstery how to http://www.upholster.com/auto/truck.html One hint I've heard is to leave the new cover in the sun for a bit to soften it so the wrincles smooth out. |
Re: How to re-upholtser your seats
I just redid the bench in my 72. Bought the stock covers, riped of the old ones and put the new ones on. Not a bad job, took about 4 hours including removing and reinstalling seats. I sit the new covers in the sun and got them nice and warm. This is not a one man job, takes several hands to strech evenly and hog ring. My hands were sore for a few days and I got blisters on most fingers at the first knuckle.

I am all for DIY and best wishes to you if you try it, but even if you buy an OEM seat cover remember a good upholsterer will not just be stretching the cover across your seat. They will likely take care of any foam, spring and frame repair/replacement the seat needs, will steam out the old foam and obviously will have experience in putting the new cover on so it looks as straight and proper as can be.

it's not that bad,,
like other said, sunlight heat helps, if going vinle,, also the wife hair drier ;) the burb has what 4 seats 2 bench and 2 buckets.. not cheap.. try it, if it's to much take it somewhere.. car craft has a story on this in the web site.. auto restorer mag/newsletter did to.. you can email them and ask what issue it was in.. bowtie press is the media.. autorestorer.com good luck.. my dad did a packard.. you have to be able to walk away if things are not going your way, and go back to it.. after you do one, the rest are a piece of cake.. |
