Is it worth it?
Is switching from torsion bars to coils springs worth it if I am happy with my ride height?

Re: Is it worth it?
Most people swap to the later suspension to obtain disc brakes, five lug wheels, to get rid of the ball bearing wheel bearings, and to be able to lower the truck. If none of these issues are a priority in your application, it's a lot easier to just leave it alone. You can still get rid of the ball bearings by switching to later hubs as detailed on the attached thread:
http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/...=536271&page=2 Other thoughts - the suspension parts and steering linkage for the 60-62 suspension are very expensive compared to the later versions, although once replaced they'll probably last another 40+ years. If you ever decide to lower the truck by unwinding the torsion bars, there's a practical limit before the adjustment anchors become a road hazard. Full length headers can be problematic because of interference with the torsion bars themselves. |
