87 S10 Blazer
My wifes 87 S10 Blazer has a tired 2.8 (160K) and my question is,,,,is it possible to replace the 2.8 with a small block? What changes have to be made? It is a standard shift 4X4. I'm not looking for big HP's just the long lasting reliablity of a SB chevy. Anyone out there done this?

Thankyou DBLSPRT68! Can't get much better info than that! I put that site in my favorites. For a few dollars I will send for the manual and then decide. Thanks again!

Get that book!
You will need a new tranny. The NP207 will stand up to a stock V8. If not a NP231 is a direct swap. The 7.5" rear is pretty weak. Some run (baby) it without problems, but I would strongly recommend an upgrade. A 9" out of an EB is a good canadate. If you don't want the hassle of a V8 swap, a GM 3.4 or 3.4 out of a Camaro/Firebird is worth an extra 25hp. The 60 degree V6 is a very reliable engine after they took care of the rear main seal problem in '86(??). |
68,
