Rear View Mirror with lights

OK guys I dont have a dome light in my truck, which I kinda like (I think it looks cleaner). My girl friend has a 2002 Chevy Malibu. The rear view mirror in this car is pretty nice. It has 2 built in lights that can be activated by pushing a switch on the mirror itself (we have all seen these). Anyway it mounts to the glass, so I dont have to attach to the steel and could still keep it the same height. Running the wires cleanly may be a little tricky, but could be done no doubt. I was just wondering if anyone have done anything like this, what brand mirror from what car did you use?
I like the idea myself and figured I would get your opinions before I go buy one. Ill probly try to buy it at a junk yard to save the $$.

Any ideas and opinions are welcome. When I get it done Ill be sure to post pictures.

Eddie, I did this on my truck, I pulled the mirror from an early 90's S10 at a junkyard...cost me $5. I tried to wire it but could not figure it out...so if you try it and figure it out let me know. I like how it looks, makes the interior look more modern (with the 40/20/40 seats too).

yeah...I have one that auto tilt's and dims when light hits it. But its in the drawer since I have a billet one. I will probably install it on my next car.

Im not looking for anything that fancy :)

Just a regular mirror with builint lights. Jeff if I get it to work Ill be sure to post. I might not go with the malibu mirror, but it looks pretty clean and simple. It will have to be what I can find for a good price, im not paying no $60+ for a friggin rear view mirror, thats just gonna fall off from the bass in a few months anyway.

You go fishing too??? :) :D

I'm not much of a bass fan, more like walleye or trout. :)

Another cool idea is installing late model sun visors....some of them have lights, built in mirrors, usually covered in cloth, stuff like that. I THINK early 90's GM truck visors will bolt right up...they look surprisingly simialr to 73-87 visors.

I got one too and will be wiring it up while my dash is all apart. What do mean you can't figure the wiring? One wire to ground and one wire to B+(12 VDC)

Some mirrors run through the computer system and a switch and so on, some require all kinds of stupid crap just to work right. I seen a few mirros that had a good 6 wires running to and from.
Jeff thanks for the tip on the visors, Ill check those out too. Ill put TV's in them...... j/k

didn't work for me...there is like 5 wires to the damn thing...I also wanted it wired into my dome light, that way the mirror lights up when the dome is on or the door opens.

Thats strange, my mirror came with a harness with 2 wires that plugs into the mirror, 1 wire for power and the other ground. Is it the same mirror. Mine has two switches that controls the two lights built into the mirror.

Mitch it really depends on what car the mirror came in and what year. What car and what year is the mirror you used and can you post a picture of it? Im trying to find the simplist mirror I can with two lights on it. You sound like you have what Im looking for, picture would be great!

Got mirror off Ebay auction some time ago. It was from a S-10 pickup, I believe a early 90's vintage and I think an Extreme or Typhoon? Its a map light which I intend to wire to switched power. (so I won't leave on and forget) I could wire into courtesy light circuit, but would only light up if doors open. :D

Here is one, gotta hurry!

Mirror wire harness pic

Here is the pic of the wire harness for the mirror. Going to drill hole in the headliner moulding by mirror and run wire down and along moulding. Hopes this helps you, Eddie...

That helps a ton thanks. Ill try to hit a junk yard soon and grab as many as I can find. Ill check the s-10's for sure.

thanks!
