Body Drop
I am body droppin' a 79 chevy shortwide and I need assistance. I bagged the front and will 4-link and bag the back. Is it best to cut the firewall or the floorboard? THANXS 4 any info.
|
never body dropped anything except the time I picked up my fiance and dropped her! LoL
I believe you would have to cut both since the cab floor/firewall follow the contours of the frame. -Jeff BTW - Welcome aboard...got some pictures to share with the rest of us? :) |
|
prerun - link no work :)
NM, you fixed it |
worked just fine... just didnt copy the whole thing.....

if you haven't started bding yet, you don't really need to. unless you are wanting to remove your rockers and lay door. all you need is either an after market front cross member or a sectioned front cross member. then a flush mount tranny crossmember, exhaust tucked up inside frame and cross memebers notched above the drive shaft, and removed or fabbed inner fenders you can lay rocker like that with no body drop on these trucks. that truck up in the pic has no body drop and stock front crossmember and tranny cross member:D

werd!! What they said. :D

body drop
This is why I wanna BODY DROP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

???
What is why you wanna body drop |

It's much easier to do the front crossmember(which can be bought) and all the other crossemembers than cut the cab floor, bed, firewall and the fenders. :D |

There's no need to body drop these trucks unless you want to do it just to say you did it. Just look at the pic 5-8 posted of his truck, no body drop, all bags. Save some headroom and just drop it with the suspension.
|
I agree w/the majority, no need to bag it just to lay the rails . . . but a stock floor bodydrop doesn't compromise ANY headroom.
I was going to bodydrop my 67 but decided I didn't want to spend all my time body working/painting the truck only to have to worry about the rockers. I wanted something solid to hit before the rockers & on my 67 & 68, the frame hangs only 3/4" below the rockers(just enough to protect them). Now, if I bought a new 2000+ chevy truck, I would body drop it as soon as I could afford to since the frame hangs almost 3" below the cab rockers. My 68 sits approx 2" lower than my buddies 01' w/a 4/6 drop, yet he high centers or drags some part of his rails on steep inclines/dips in the road while I have room to spare. |
The majority here has been saying to bag it and not body drop it, so how is it that you agree?
Also, how does raising the floor not compromise headroom? |
BODY DROP
SORRRY!!!!! The pics. didn't go thru.!!!!!!!!!!!

|
And I hope you dont want a/c or a heater !! damn! haha
The more I look at it the more I feel sorry for that truck! |
why even go thru the trouble of raising the bed floor...why not just cap it off with a smmoth piece of metal?
I would like to see some interior shots...with a person in there too..can you say hunchback!! I too feel sorry for the truck... :( -Jeff |
Hey thats an Arizona Plate on that truck. Maybe Ill see it around town and tell him what you guys think about it :)
Edit: He should have done something else with that bed, its worthless the way it sits. |
