front crossmember
will the front cross member out of a 64 chevy work on my 62? the reason im asking is cause my friend is givin me his 64 long bed
|
Re: front crossmember
I believe that the 62 is the torsion bar front suspension and the frame is wider. So NO, I do not believe it will work.
You could shorten the 64 frame and change our the hole frame, but that would be a lot of work and the cab & bed mounts might not be the same... |
Re: front crossmember
it will fit, the 4 of the the 6 holes along the bottom of the frame rails should line up. If your gonna go through that trouble though, you might as well get a 73-87 truck for 5 lug and disk brakes. its the same amount of work with more benefits. i picked up a 74 complete for 180 bucks and had the front crossmember bolted in under my 60 in just a couple late nights after work.. :hmm::metal:

Re: front crossmember
I absolutely do not wanna threadjack but is it worth keeping a 60-63 frame under a project truck? Overall goal is slammed.
Thanks a bunch |
Re: front crossmember
Good place to get info on it.

I do plan on ditching all of the factory front suspension for later equipment or a porterbuilt member. I know it will fit, I have just debating the rear and the 63-66 seem more mod friendly with bolt-ons available where-as the 62 would require more straight custom suspension work. Edit: I will formulate some good questions and dig up my old "build" thread for posting in. Thank you for your patience |
