Re: 496

The guy's ebay name is entropytec and he builds all his rads himself. I got mine for about $250 shipped and I love it. He even sells them with a e-fan setup that is real reasonable in price.

You mean to tell me not one other person on this forum knows where to get an aluminum radiator for a reasonable price? .....

Re: 496

I was unable to find a reasonable price on an aluminum radiator. I just bought a 4 row brass radiator @ Orielly auto parts and it fit and cools great on my BBC.

I found the one on ebay but i aint to thrilled about helping chinas economy..
I guess i could search junkyard after junkyard until i find something...
Dunno.. im getting real tired of this 496 though and have never even touched it in person... it's sad when you give business to people and refer more business for people and they dont wanna do anything to show you they appreciate it. sorry for the rant.

Shawnt, I got an Alum rad from JEGS (Their brand) 31x19 duel core 1in pipe. like $180 then got 2 Flex-a-lite fans for under $200.

Re: 496

Thanks rip.. i'll look into that!

Re: 496

Sorry I didn't notice that you have a square body, I bought mine from entropytec for a 68. I would stay away from that 3 core, because those are 1/2" rows so it is only as thick as a stock 3 core. I'd look into the one ripdog suggested, that looks like a good deal.

Re: 496

I use an AFCO bolt in radiator in my '68.

You will get better prices on ebay.

Re: 496

Suggest when you return, talk with NAPA, Autozone or your local equivalent. With a part like a radiator, I prefer to know the person/shop it's ordered from particularly if you have a problem with fitment or a warranty issue. I recently picked up a new rad from NAPA and got exactly what I wanted...with a lifetime warranty and a military discount.

Stay safe....let us know when you return.

Re: 496

Other than wanting a shiny part. Theres really no reason a stock 4 core wont work for ya. It will cool plenty good and it will fit.

Re: 496

I found one for ya . Not sure on the country of origin , but you can alway inquire . It's like $190ish shipped .

Sorry bud... but you help out more than you know with prolly more than half of the stuff you normally buy. No gettin' around it much anymore.

I got my aluminum radiator off of ebay... about 200 bucks.

Re: 496

I know the stock 4 core will work.. but im trying to cut weight as much as possible on the front end.
Hotrod_80... i like that radiator.. i might have to just get one from china but the stuff better work!
I'll talk to the peolpe at Oreilly when i get home if i havent already got one. The only radiator i have right now is for a 4.3L v6 and that didnt really cool my 355.
Thanks for the replies!

Shawn, didn't read the whole thread, but try Day Motorsports in Tyler, they have several alum radiators starting at 160.00... yeah, I know, it's circle track stuff, but your truck wont know the diff!

Shawn

jgreene0717 05-19-2010 03:09 PM

Re: 496

Yeah right I think it will be making a little more than 350hp nice try though.

ripdog28 05-19-2010 05:36 PM

Re: 496

Why suck a high Stall? You will be loosing out on all that low end TQ... IMO, with that cam, a 2800/3000 would be fine. Just straight up Drag is another story.

shawnt 05-20-2010 03:49 PM

Re: 496

It's a street strip truck, but it will be raced most every weekend, and driven everyday. The stall i have is the 3600-3800 coan. I may get another one later, im just running what i have right now and i'll go from there.

Re: 496

Yeah I am going rounds with my converter as we speak. It had a TCI Breakaway advertised @ 2400rpm for a small block application and around 2600 to 2800 for big block applications. But in my application it is around 4000rpm so i am driving through it I guess. I have already pulled it and sent it back for refund and ordered a custom PTC convertor. Going to upgrade the TH-350 while it is out so we will see how it works out when it is all put back together.

I looked at Day and Speedwaymotors.com. I went with Speedway at the time for the same radiator because Speedway had free shipping and I lived in Texas so I would have had to pay sales tax and shipping...
Here is the link to the one like I got...
