shortbed dually's?
hey guys, im workin on a lifted 85' short fleet and was thinkin about makin her a dually with the tractor trailer style tires. the only shortbed dually's ive seen have been stepsides and im just curiouse if there are others out there. im just worried that the truck would look to short and fat for its hieght. whitch is only a 6 inch lift?
any opinions or ideas? |
Re: shortbed dually's?
a guy in town here turned one into a dually. i think he may have started with a dually and cut the frame and bed down, but i'm not positive on that. as far as looks, it looks awesome! probably one of the coolest shortwide's i've seen. they just look cool duallied.

Re: shortbed dually's?
alright thats one vote for cool lookin lol. i mean it wouldnt really be a practical truck since it kinda defeats the purpose of a dually. but when i gernade the rears that are in it i might try it out. who needs a practical truck at 19 anyway? ha

Back from the dead. Saw this on Craigslist this morning. Looks like the same truck.

Re: shortbed dually's?
A few years back when I was working in Upstate New York, one of my co-workers had one.
It was a 1977 or '78 beautiful all black Scottsdale SWB with a red interior. He used it to haul his 5th wheel camper. Funny you posted this as I was just thinking it might be fun to build one. |
Re: shortbed dually's?
I thought about doing it once, seemed different, but seeing a picture kinda confirms my thoughts that it looks awkward

Re: shortbed dually's?
Unfortunately it has been more than a few years and I am sure he has long since retired as he was close to retiring when I worked with him.
On Fridays in the summer when he drove it to work we parked next to each other. I was driving a 1979 GMC SWB Heavy Half in those days :metal: |
Re: shortbed dually's?
I would be worried about a gooseneck hitting the side of the cab in a tight backup. Purely on looks, I would think it was cool if I saw one.
|
Re: shortbed dually's?
Most goosenecks I see have lots of angle available, I think it would be far more likely with a 5th wheel.
I guess that's why Chevy will sell CCSB SRW 3500HDs but not DRW, while you can go DRW on any of the 3 long bed options. I'd never really noticed that there are no CCSB duallys, but I don't see all that many duallys around here anyway. |
