put in HEI Distributor, now engine makes popping sound - HELP!

so i put in a new HEI distributor and wires, used the old spark plugs (regapped at .045) and now my engine pops when i hit the gas. anybody know what it could be? checked the timing, it is fine, no clue what it could be. the wires are hooked up correctly to the cap as well.

Popping in this case would probably indicate your firing order is off.

ok, ill check it again. could it be a vacuum leak as well?

Yes, it could be vacuum leak. Also check the vacuum advance to make sure it's working properly.

Check the timing? poppin out the carb could be timing too retarded.
