Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
3 Attachment(s)
Need some help from the steel wheel experts out there! I believe these are from a 71 Blazer 6 lug 4x4. I've got 3 of the "H" stamped style and one 15x8 ralley. The question is, are they a correct option for Blazers and trucks and should I try to find the 4th "H" wheel to complete the set? Thanks in advance, Sharpie

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
Sorry but I believe these are not 71 wheels .They are for 73 and newer. As for the "H" I am standing by to review these comments as I dont really know .

Hi Rob, sorry I didn't include the date stamps? of 5 70 and 10 71. I believe TOO MUCH STUFF has literature on these type of wheels. May have been a dealer add on with bigger tires? I'm curious as to the exact origin as well. Sharpie

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
I can add that the 71 jimmy brochure cover picture shows them, as does the 72 blazer brochure. I think a set i have were earlier than that, but were on a military truck. I would have to dig through my lit. and see if i can find anything out. I think the value is only around $10 each. Just bring them up with you. haha

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
Those are aftermarket by Firestone.Kelsey-Hayes provided the wheels for the flotation tire option. The tires were 10.00-16.5 and the wheels were 8.25 x 16.5 that came with that option.I don`t think the value varies much and, except for someone going for factory original, the 15s are more desirable to most and possibly would bring more.

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
So tim, are you saying you could not get a 15x8 wheel from the factory? I think even the JJ code is gm, isn't it? I will look into some "stuff" today and see if i find anything. Eric

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
Not much luck. It looks like the brochures are for a 16.5 wheel (6 lug). The 71 jimmy brochure threw me as it has the wide wheels with the dogdish hubcaps. I have an NOS 15x8 with the part number on it if someone can run it. Looking like tim knows his wheels!!
So which hubcap would the 16.5s take? The 12"? Sharpie, looks like you are getting info overload. I would try to find a 4th wheel to make a set to answer you first question. |
Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
I was to believe that the 15 x 8" wheels came only one military blazers and as spares on blazers in the 73-87 range. I am currently off and on sandblasting my military blazer rims for my truck, and could see what the codes are on them to let you know if they match up. The only thing that I see on your wheel Dennis that is strange, is that H. That could have very well have been for "Hickey".
Eric, the 16.5 flotation wheels did not have hubcaps I believe. I am pretty sure if you ordered them, they were just a white steel wheel with no dressing. Trevor |
Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
Man I love it when you guys get excited over parts! Let the info. flow. Thanks, Sharpie

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
The 15X8s six lug steel wheels (not the ralleys) go for around 50 bucks a piece. A little more if they are blasted and painted and a little less if they need to be finished. This is what Ive seen them for sale here on the board and prices I have seen locally. As far as the rally style ... IMO they are still a dime a dozen they are so plentiful. Ive given a set away. I think the caps and rings are worth more than the wheels themselfs.
As far as the history of the wheels ... Ive seen a bunch of explanations, all of the above ones and more...a mystery that may never be fully solved lol. |
Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
The NOS wheel i have with the old style GM sticker is 341506. Also has a 15x8 JJ stamp. Lets see if a parts number whiz can break that down to see what it fits...

Re: Blazer 15x8 steel wheels
I`d look it up but that might prove me wrong!:haha: No,I don`t know,I think what I`ve been thinking is what was right then and I still remembered it right today unless I was wrong then and remembered it right which is wrong now.I might have remembered the right thing wrong or the wrong thing right.
Alot of it was tires. There were only so many big tires made. The Gates Commandos and Armstrong Tru Tracs were in 15",so that`s where you saw the 8 x 15s.The factory offered "floatation" tires which were hiway tread. The only truck-rated wide hiway tires were the new 16.5s. |
