68 C10 Frame Specs?
I just joined here and have a body-off project in progress(for the last ten years). I spent several hours looking on here for frame specs because I need to straighten the frame. I found the ones posted on here, but when I enlarge the post, I can't read the data. I have looked for old frame manuals, but those things are getting harder to come by. The truck is a '68 C10 Short 2x4, can anyone help?
Once I get this thing is straight, the process is gonna speed up and I'll keep updates and pics on here. This was my first vehicle and it has been setting in peices for years, so this is gonna be a time machine build for me. |
Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
Here are a couple pics of the truck in its current condition.

Also, does the body need to be on the truck to acuratley straighten the frame? |
Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
I wouldn't think the body would need to be on the frame - but just a thought, have you considered looking for another frame that you don't need to straighten? I would think at the point where you are, that would be cheaper and less hassle in the long run. You might inquire over in the Paint and body section - a lot of guys that specialize in that stuff hang out over there.

Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
I don't know how to put up a link; but just yesterday Police22 posted Wire Diagrams.
It's on page 2 of this self same message board. He later added some frame specification diagrams. It could very well be worth your time to check it out. |
Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
Get a reprint of the 1968 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual.
Here's one: http://www.themotorbookstore.com/st13368.html |
Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
Thank you everyone for the help. If I could find a good frame nearby, I would go that route but finding one that doesn't need some sort of work is something I have to consider also. If I get this one fixed, I know its good to go.
I'm going to try to get this truck back on the road in the next couple of months. Its going to stay mostly stock in appearance and stance and getting a 700R4 for the moment but I plan on putting a manual back in later. I'll start resto thread on it when I get started. Thanks again. |
Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
Welcome from Jonesboro.
I may have some stuff in an assembly manual. I have a 69 service manual too that may be helpful. I don't think there is any difference in overall dimensions from 68 to 69. The top return on the rails in the engine bay is longer on the 68 and there is no dimple for power steering on the 68. The radiator support mounts may be located differently too but I think everything else is the same. I'll scan what I find. |

The frame major dimensions are in the 68 chassis service manual pages 2-3 (133) & 2-7 (136). The applicable model number you will use is CA107. If you don't have the manuals download a working copy here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=558016 Direct link to the 68 service manual http://www.mediafire.com/view/?1he3dv2cfohlnrl Quote:

Yes I did try that and it did not work |
Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
Sorry about that, the link was bad. Corrected and it tested OK so you should be good to go with my links.

Re: 68 C10 Frame Specs?
Would the 73-80 truck frame be the same width or relatively close to the 67-72 frames? The 1968 manual is the link that's not working but the 73-80 diagram is working fine
