My new truck

Hello,

I am new to this post, and also to the world of GM trucks.
I recently purchased this all-original 1969 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 350 and a 4 speed, and plan to use it for a daily driver.

Here's my question: I seem to have found conflicting sources as to what drivetrain my truck is equipped with. It still has the original 350 (82,000 miles), but what axles, transfer case, and transmission does it have? Thanks in advance!

oh yeah, here's a pic of it!

'69 is kind of a crossover year for some stuff. Your truck should have an SM465 trans. Transfer case is probably an NP205 but could also be a Rockwell T221. The Rockwell case has the rear output a few inches lower than the input, while on a 205 it is directly in line. You can find pictures on this board to verify which it is. The rear axle could be either a Dana 60 or an Eaton, you can also search the board for pictures to verify which. Front axle is definitely a Dana 44.

In addition to the good info that Blazer1970 gave, you could also have either closed or open knuckle axles in 69.

I agree with what is said above and I want to see some pics - e-mail them to me if you can't get them posted and I will post them for you. If you hit the Profile button below, you will see the option on e-mailing.

Welcome from California

I am fairly recent to the board too, and I am working on a recently acquired 71 3/4 to 4x4. The info. above just about covers it. If you could post pictures of your drivetrain people could give you a positive I.D. on your parts.

Hello everyone and thanks for the helpful tips. I just drove the truck about 800 miles from Minnesota to Ohio. It runs and drives excellently. It suffers from a few electrical problems, but otherwise is great. Oh, and it has a dana 60 rear, np205 t-case, and closed-knuckle dana 44 front. I will have some pics soon, i will email to those who can post since it appears i can't. Thanks.

thanks Yukon Jack, for your pictures of your Rockwell T-221 case in another thread. I have positively ID'ed my t-case as a T-221, not a 205 like I previously believed.

Also, could someone help me out on the specs of the 221? If there is a place here on the website, could you point it out? Thanks very much.
