Electrical questions
I'm getting ready to put the new wiring in my '59 project. I bought a complete wiring kit from Factory Fit. I laid out all the harnesses on the kitchen table and labeled everything for easier install and so I could understand where everything goes. So now I have some questions.
I'm running a SBC 350 and installed a single wire alternator. I did order the alternator wiring harness which has not arrived, so that may answer my questions but you guys probably will be able to help me now. What do I do with the wires that were supposed to go to the generator? I don't think I need a regulator anymore, but what about the wiring that is supposed to go there? How do I remove the lighting switch from the dash? Once I get it out, are the terminals labeled? My shop manual has no info on this. Thanks in advance for any help. |
Re: Electrical questions
On the headlight switch there is a botton on it (behind the dash), push it and pull the switch on and it should pull right out. then just unscrew the part thats on the front side of the dash.

here is a wiring diagrams that might help. There is a pin you press on the switch that releases the knob, then you can unscrew the bezel. Send me a pm with a email address and I can send you the one out of the assembly manual too, it is too big to post here.

Re: Electrical questions
Thanks for the info on the light switch. I tried depressing the button and pulling the knob out already, but it doesn't want to come out. I thought there might be something more to the removal. I'll hit it with some WD 40 and pull a little harder.

Re: Electrical questions
i went out and found you need to pull it out to the light on position and turn the knob while pushing on the pin until it releases.

Re: Electrical questions
Thanks Orrie. I did the same and was able to pull the switch on one of my dashes. But my second dash the knob will not pull out. Stubborn son of a gun.

Re: Electrical questions
Still wondering if anyone can help with the wiring question for the single wire alternator. Do I just forgot all the regulator and ballast wires?

Re: Electrical questions
Yes, You won't use the stock wires. You need a key hot for an exciter wire and a heavy wire from the big post on the alt. to the starter.

Re: Electrical questions
My one wire alt, I just ran a heavy guage wire to the starter. No exciter wire needed.

Re: Electrical questions
