?'s for you diesel guys.....

Just got a 1987 1ton with a 6.2/th400. this is my first diesel of any kind and im pretty exited about it even though i dont know s@#t about these engines.

What can i do to it to get a little more power besides the exhuast and air cleaner? i want to keep it N/A for a while so i can figure out how she works before i do any kind of major upgrade like a turbo. She will also be my DD..

thanks
matt

turn up the fuel abit thats about the only thing you can do besides a freeflow exhurst and a less ristriced air filter
give it a good tune up all filters and fluids

thats what i figured. ive looked at a couple how to aritcles and it seems pretty easy to turn it up. Is 1/8 a turn a good amount or should i go more? If i straight pipe it will it be crazy load? i also read somthing about advancing the timing? is this a good or bad thing? also do they have smog equipment that can be removed?

I noticed a bit more power when I advanced my injector pump timing. I'm saving up for an egt pyrometer before I turn up the fuel.

Re: ?'s for you diesel guys.....

There are 3 bolts that hold on the injector pump. Also look on the flange and you will see a mark...that's where it was marked when the pump was first installed. Just loosen the 3 bolts and turn the pump...don't do this with the engine running. I'll have to look in my books again to refresh my memory as to which direction advances it...IIRC turn the pump towards the driver side but let me double check that tonight and I will post up tomorrow.

that would be great. how much do you advance it? from what i have read if I advance the pump/turn it up 1/8 turn, get a good air filter and straigt pipe it i should get a little more juice and it wont break the bank or make it unreliable.

thanks all

If your turning up fuel get a EGT gauge. Better to be safe than sorry
