Failure

Every time I start my truck a buzzer-sound goes off and "failure" reads across my radio. Does anyone know what is gong on? Is it the radio or the truck?

I'm unaware of any 73-87 chevy truck that has a radio with a display that reads anything. Since you mentioned no year model, but posted in this forum, that's the information I have to go off of.

Like my mechanic always says, "could not duplicate problem".

It's a 76. I put a different radio in that has a face that reads the station, artist, stuff like that. Does that help at all?

radio the truck doesn't interface with the radio only supplies power

Re: Failure

Okay then it must be the truck. Why would the truck make the buzzer sound?

Re: Failure

Is the buzzer coming over the speakers, or from under the dash?

Re: Failure

IF it doesn't come from the speakers there is a possibility you are arcing power from a poor connection or broken wire

I have no idea why it would make the sound. Everything looks good. The sound is definitely coming from under the dash. I will check for connections and broken wires. Thanks guys!

Re: Failure

If the sound is coming from the deck itself, and the screen reads 'failure' or 'protect' it's generally a sign of a shorted final in the deck. Usually this is caused by one of the speaker leads touching ground (assuming this isnt a common ground unit, but not much info to go off of so I'm just throwing common problems out there) or the deck has malfunctioned.

When trouble shooting this... it is usually best to disconnect all the speakers and antenna from the deck itself and turn it on and see if it's still coming up. If that solves the problem, its most likely a speaker issue (assuming your not running amps) if it still comes up fault, I'd personally think the problem lies in the radio itself.

Re: Failure

their is always a buzzer when you turn the key it tells you that power is turned on. the radio has nothing to do with the truck it may be malfunctioning. if the buzzer is over the speaker the wires are touching each other

Re: Failure

I dont know if a 76 would have it, but you sure it's not the seat belt buzzer?

I got a 75 that is quiet as a church mouse, well, until they BBC fires up....LOL! Seriously, kill power to the radio and see if that kills the buzzer, mine has no buzzer.
