87 GMC long bed lots of questions??
Ok so i bought a 87 GMC 1500 sierra long bed... i love the truck and have been building it little by little.. the truck has 32000 original miles and is drive'n alot... its a 2wd and has a 305 engine.. Im new to trucks and also to gm. Iv got 22 inch wheels on it and i would really like to lower it some but im not sure how low i can go.. the truck is used to haul my bike so drive ability and reliability are big. i drive long distance some times to get to shows and comps.. just looking to get some advice on here to help me set up my truck.. i want custom but working at the same time. i will also post some pics later.

theres lost of ways to lower it.. the question is how low do you want to go? and if you go too low i dont think those 22s are going to fit up front

That is such a rare truck, and also 23 years old, it is going to be darn hard to find anything for it    You might consider ditching the Donk wheels in favor of some 18's and there are quite a few ways to get a 5/7 drop --- one way would be a 2.5" drop spindle with a 2.5" lowering coil, along with an axle flip kit for the rear if you want a static drop. Classic Industries, Belltech if they are still around --- really, you haven't looked hard enough , but i remember seeing ads in the back of "Truckin" magazine as little as a year ago for lowering kits for these beasts . Keep the faith., the parts are out there and plentiful They actually used to tow trailers with 305 long bed trucks back in 1987 too --- unless you are talking about something over 5000 pounds , it shouldnt be much of a problem |
Re: 87 GMC long bed lots of questions??
Well around her there is 87 long beds everywhere i have one that i cut down and made a short bed theres so many and hardly any short beds just go to stylintrucks.com and look it up for a 1987 Chevy Fullsize pickup any lowering kit will fit from 73-87 long or short bed just check your rotor width they are either 1" or 1.25" thats all it doesnt matter all the trucks are the same.
