87 gauges on a 83
Seems like I read on here that you couldn't run 87 gauges on a older truck. I hooked up the gauge cluster out of the 87 burb into my 83 c10 and everything seems to work fine. I don't have the cruise in the truck though. Is that the part that won't work? Or have I just made this whole thing up n my head? Set me straight please. Thanks

Re: 87 gauges on a 83
The 88 up panels are different and require repinning. I would think the 81-87 as long as its a "gauge" pane to a "gauge" truck should swap. Some body will correct me if I am wrong though. Jay

Re: 87 gauges on a 83
It is probably a silly question considering I already hooked them up and all of the gauges are working great. I just swear I heard there was something that wouldn't work right. The "check engine" light was on for about 5 min after starting the truck but it went off and hasn't come on again. Like I said above, maybe it has something to do with the cruise, or...maybe I'm crazy. Lol

Yes, cruise control changed. It went from an opto to electronic.

Re: 87 gauges on a 83
Let me ask you guys this then... What if I take the cruise off of the 87 and install it on my 83, would it work then?

Re: 87 gauges on a 83
The components are the same. Only wiring changed. Plus the 83 was the last year of cruise control without the wiper option handle. 84 and later models used a different steering column design.

Re: 87 gauges on a 83
Doesn't the 87 have a VSS being a TBI truck? I have no idea whether the fit or not, just thinking aloud.
