tailgate hinge thing

Is the tailgate hinge thing universal? Will they work on both sides? I have one missing. This is the round piece that has 2 bolts that come off to remove the gate. Is there a name for that piece or a part number?

I'm pretty sure they are different on each side, well mine is! There's a round one on the left side and an oval one on the right side. The oval matching part on the gate itself has a slot missing to enable you to lift the gate off from that side, and then pull it slightly to the right to pull off from the round one.
Does that make sense? I hope so.....

The proper name is Trunnion. As of a few years ago, you could still get them from GM. IIRC, it was about $15.

The slotted ones came in two different sizes, 75(?)-80, and 81-87...so if you are missing that side, be sure to get the right one for your truck. 73-74(?) didn't have the quick release option...both sides were round and were a PITA to install.
