You could also consider a Pertronix 1162A. Keep the original look, with the reliability of electronics.

I just put a Skip White HEI on my 230. They're on for 69 bucks on ebay. I now have a pertronix dizzy and coil to give away to a new home. If you're interested pm me.

I found a 1981'ish 3/4 ton with a 292 that had the factory HEI unit. I put it in my 66 w/ a 250, and worked great, just ran a new feed wire from fuse panel, and away we went...

The HEI from any GM I-6 with a 4 wire connector will work. Started in 73 as an option on Olds, all cars had them in 74, pickups in 75. You want one with a vacuum advance, which was into the 80's. Whatever you use, if you want performance, you will want to recurve. These distributors are getting hard to find, and are commanding a premium price. The last one I bought was $25, but that was over 10 years ago.

Biggest issue I have is with the large cap. Somewhere I had an article on converting a small cap from a 2.8L v6, but I cannot find it.

Fred, Will these years of HEI's work in a '62 235 also?

I went the pertronics route. I've never looked back. It costs about as much as a used HEI distributor and works twice as good. I was trying to set up the timing on my 250 and was 180 degrees off. The backfire with my pertronics setup was twice as loud and violent as that of the factory HEI distributor I put in there. Its amazing the difference. Go pertronix, just my 2 cents....
