3M structural adhesive works great! I have seen, used it and it is stronger than welding. I don't know if I would use it in place of welding for all areas but for exterior sheet metal it is fine! Read the instructions, have plenty of vise grips or the like to hold the panel while it sets up. Prep the area and test fit it all before you start glueing and you will be satisfied with the result

I've heard of it, but never used it. I really can't see how it would be stronger than welding, but then again I'm not familiar with it. There's just something about glueing on panels I have a problem with, but maybe I would be hooked on it if I used it.

I do know surface prep would have to be optimal for any kind of glue to have any hold strength to it. I would rather weld it in. It's easier for me to shape it and smooth it out.

I used the structural adhesive on my cab corners and box side.

Check my build thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=342926 (page 5 and page 6) for all the gory details.

I used it 4 years ago to install a patch panel inside the cab on my 69. Since I couldn't clamp from both sides, I used countersunk pop rivets for clamps. Here are some pics.

aren't rocker panels structural? Cool info! I want to know more because I don't see my self getting a welder any time soon and I found out that I need to look more into my rocker panels.

They really aren't structural, as in frame structural. There is an inner rocker also, so you have some support there. The instructions call for the parts (like in a quarter panel or roof panel replacement situation) to be welded at the ends, and the parts can be bonded between. There are also quite a few different adhesives, so you would want to make sure you had the correct one for the intended application.
