1973 4WD, Can't separate the adaptor between 3 speed manual and NP 205.
 

Cab and bed off. Down to frame for rebuild and rust treatment. Transfercase will separate from "figure 8" adaptor. Can't get adaptor off from transmission. It will separate ~ ¼" and move no further. It feels like it is up against some firm metal blockage. Would like to reuse adaptor if at all possible. Transmission is 3 speed manual.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
