New carb for Silverado

Hey everyone,

I need some advice on a replacement carb for my '84 Silverado. I'm currently running the stock Q-Jet on an E'brock Performer manifold, 290 HP crate 350, daily driver.

Thanks

Edelbrock 1406 carb. If you have a spreadbore intake I believe you can get an adapter for the squarebore to fit and also it will act as an insulator for hot starts.

I was never satisfied with the Carter or Edelbrock carburetors I had on my square bodies. One issue was that the spreadbore adapters made the air cleaner to exhaust manifold tubes and throttle linkage not line up properly. One Edelbrock had an oversized throttle valve which would stick and cause the engine to race unexpectedly. Also, the gas mileage was not quite as good as with the stock Qjet. I don't know about other aftermarket carburetors. I now have a professionally rebuilt Qjet on my 454 which runs the best of the lot and gets me through emissions every year - the other aftermarket carbs always needed fiddling with to pass. Still, the Q-jet has its quirks, but not as many as the aftermarket versions I have had. But each to his or her own.
