Fuel pump question

Since the beginning of the spring I have started havin problems starting my 82 k20. 2 years ago I replaced the mechanical fuel pump on my 350 with a NAPA one has three ports as the original one had, one from the tank, one to the carb, an the last one was an is plugged(fuel return line I'm thinking), my question is am I having a vapor lock problem?? If I spray carb cleaner in the carb BAM she fires right up an stays running. I have a 2 port fuel sending unit do I need to install a 3 port to hook up the fuel return line, or is one issue not related to the other???

Re: Fuel pump question

Hi from a fellow Mainer!

I've heard that the purpose of the return line is to help prevent vapor lock. So I think you're on the right track by adding one.

Yes, you'll have to swap out the sending unit to a 3-port one in order to hook up the return line. Or, I suppose you could run the return line from the fuel pump into the existing vent line on the 2-port sending unit. Then make up for the lack of a vent line by running a vented gas cap.
