Fuel Tank Swap VS Stock tank Quesitons

Hi all... I ogt a 87 stepside and I heard that the gas tanks being on the outside of the frame could be a issue. IS this why people do the gas tank swap to the rear? Is it really needed? I can not really afford a $400 fuel tank and all the work associated with it. Can I make do with the one side tank for now and then convert? Your opinions are welcome..... Ireally dont want to blow up !

Side tanks have been proven to be no more dangerous than rear mounted tanks. Leave the side tanks and dont worry about it.

If you put a few 1/4 sticks of dynamite beside it, those saddle tanks WILL BLOW UP! Be very careful if you do this, dangerous tanks...

Guys put the blazer tanks in the rear for other reasons. Like suspensions that want that space. Or weight further back for racing. Or to allow the bed side to be smooth. From a driving standpoint the tanks are safe right where they are.

The only reason I changed to a rear-mounted tank was due to having a single 16.5 gallon saddle tank feeding a 454. I couldn't drive across L.A. without refueling. If I had a factory dual saddle tank set-up, I would have left well enough alone.
