Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

I recently purchased a quad pillar pod for my 95 Ford. It is really nice and was only $75. No one else makes a quad for the OBS fords. While I was talking to the guy I it from, I told him I wished someone made these for the 73-87 chevys. He told me if I can get a group of 50 guys together, he can get them made. These are thick plastic and not some thin cheap junk. I'm going to start a poll and see who would want what. Let me know what you guys think, Ryan.

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

I know we have enough chevy trucks I can vouge for 3 right off the bat. I'd probabaly go with atleast triples if not quads. I will vote triple since we need to reach 50 to get an order going.

I have ben trying to find some. My vote is for the one with 3. Vacuum gauge, A/F gauge, oil temp. Mine already has volt, coolant, oil psi, gas (wich seems to be broken...every time i floor the truck it drops a hole bunch)

Any way to post up a pic to see what kind of quality and look we could be getting?

Something that you need to consider is how these will fit on a 73-87 pillar. I have seen them mocked up and anything beyond a two gauge pod is going to obstruct your view.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I will say that getting 50 orders to actually happen is going to be impossible. Getting 10 people to stay committed on a group buy is hard, getting 50 just isn't going to happen.

Apearently you haven't looked inside any "real" performance related vehicles recently. Adding gauges to the pillar is much cleaner than hanging below the dash.

Apparantly you don't understand what someone's personal opinion is. I've looked at plenty of performance vehicles. I have a few myself. From what I remember, this was something VERY popular with the ricer crowd, which has spread into the rest of the automotive hobby. I don't like the look, guess I'm unfamiliar with performance vehicles....

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

I vote for Triple gauge pod, i could careless if it blocks my view or not LOL... but it ultimately depends on fit and finish of final product

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

I'd vote for a triple pod. Oil Pressure, Coolant Temp, and Vacuum.

I understand exactly what your comment was, and that it was your personal biased opinion. I also know that this mod has been popular with the several styles of cars and trucks besides "Ricers" as you eloquently put it.

The OP is trying to offer a product that might be of interest to some of our members. If you would like to offer advice in a positive manner, please do. If you have nothing more to add than negative input please find another thread.

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

I would be in for at least two tripples depending on quality.

I only need 2, one tiny tach (if there is such a thing) and Kenworth Thermometer.

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

1) i suggest you do it all yourself.

2) i, personally, would want 4 holes, but i think you should offer all 4 types---1,2,3,+4. And i would definitely buy it, if it were available.

i discovered a new material "thing":
http://www.percyshp.com/HyperFiber.html

a few rolls of this, and a good, hi-quality wood or foam mold and you're in business.

i would agree; I'ts ultra-hard to get people to commit to something that does not yet exist. HOWEVER, once the product is out, i would bet all my money that it will sell like hot cakes.

i have said it before and will say it again: Whoever comes out with pillar gauge pods for the 73-87(91's) will get all the marbles.

The reasons why i don't do it myself is i don't have the time, money, ability or stomach to do it. The last 2----ability and stomach i feel are the most important reasons.

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

i agree they would sell like crazy, 73-87 is a very very popular truck just about anywhere

Dieselwrencher 06-16-2010 03:55 PM

Info on pillar pods

Ok, I should add in here that we will need 50 per order of pods to get them made. So if we want a 2 pod, 50 people will need to want one. If we want a triple, 50 people will need to want one. I screwed up and should have made the poll have 2 options, triple or quad. If we get enough people there is hope of doing a run of triples and quads. We are already almost half way there on the triples because a few of us want more than one. And if we have more triples than quads I will settle for a triple just to get one. I am getting pictures emailed to me and I wil post them up. These fit nice in the fords and I'm sure will fit nice in the chevys. As far as these being a blind spot, you'll have to get used to it. These can't be any worse than driving a newer truck with the huge pillars and the huge mirror hanging off the pillars. And as far as ricer? Yeah right, I've got a few pick ups that can show you ricer gauge pod power.

I'd do it if I could spare the cost but things are tight and I just can't do it. There for someone else will be making the profit, not me. But I really don't care. I'm just trying to help out board members because I know there is a need for these but the big manufacturers just don't see it.

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

Just to clarify for some people...I am assuming that the pods are without gauges. I see some people wanting specific gauges with the pods. Are these pods for a common
2 1/16 gauge or for the larger 2 5/8 size?

good point... my dream would be one 2 5/8 hole for a tach and two 2 1/16 for vacuum and a/f ratio

Dieselwrencher 06-16-2010 10:28 PM

Re: Pillar gauge pods............ Any interest?

You are correct, these are just the pods. No gauges included and yes they will be for 2 1/16 gauges.
