roof rack installation

2 Attachment(s)
does anyone have experience installing a roof rack. Question is; does the "screw plug" install from the top down, or from the inside of the cab to out. sorry for the bad pics. the brass screw inside is flush with the base of the "non flange" end. My thought process is from the top in, when you screw down the rack "legs" the brass plug will "bunch up" the rubber like a gyproc wall plug. The instructions pic suggests differently.

thx,

Al.

LOL, kinda figured you would be the one to reply sooner or later. thx. I also found out the the package was missing 5 screws that go through the legs in the rubber plugs. Do you know where to find these? 1 1/4 x 1/4 coarse thread. small ovaled head.

thx again,

Al.

, I was able to pick some stainless ones up at a hardware store. Let me know if you can't find them.

can you explain in dummy english just how these racks mount on top of the burb. I have one that I need to install. what are those "plugs" you have in the pics????

Re: roof rack installation

The "plugs" are more commonly known as well-nuts. They go through about a 1/2" hole in the roof and have a threaded brass insert at the bottom for a 1/4-20 screw. When you tighten it down it collapses the well-nut tight around the sheet metal providing a seal and an anchor.

The roof racks for the 67-72 with the stainless strips are hard to come by. And i have found that the bolts at the hardware store are a little different but will work. I was wanting to know who manifactured these racks?
