Can any of you guys tells me what this thing is just above me oil filter on the driver's side of my block? The guy I bought the motor from was running a 700R4 behind the motor. Also for any of you running a manual tranny, where do I mount the block ball std for the bellcrank? If I remove this little do dad I should be able to mount the ball stud here????

My truck also has that sensor. If I remember correctly, I believe it is a oil pressure sensor.

I agree,, I think its a pressure sensor.

That is the oil pressure sensor. The hole above that should be for the clutch linkage. It might not be tapped for a bolt yet. Some werent from the factory.

Thanks guys. Since I don't have electrical gauges, I will leave it unplugged or should I move it when I re-install the mechanical oil pressure gauge? The hole above it is tapped but I thought that was one of the mounting points for the starter. I am. Hanging the starter any way to match my small block flywheel

The starter goes on the other side of the block, at least for automatics. The starter bolts directly to the bellhousing on most truck-type manual transmissions.
As the others have stated...the fitting is for oil pressure and the hole above it is for the clutch bell-crank.

Don't just take that senging unit out. It will have to be plugged or you will have a gusher of crude oil coming out when you start it up. I believe thar is another oil passage next to the distributor.

My 83 gas that sensor. It is an oil pressure sensor for the electric choke. You connect the oil pressure sensor to the fitting on the top of the block next to the distributor. This sensor controls the choke on a quadrajet for cold start or something like that, Im sure someone else can clarify that last part.

Yes it is the choke switch. It connects power to your choke after the engine builds oil pressure.
