Heat only has an air filter!??

I found an air intake, shoved my hand in it and felt something soft with dirt... is this an air filter!!?? how do i service it???

my hand is on it n pic.....looking thru where glove box would be.

Thats insulation material. the oval door to the right is the recirculation door. Chevys truck didnt come with cabin filters untill 99.

I just read the post not the title. if you have heat only.... check the "blend door" cable (left of where your pointing) on top of the heater core case.
