57 gmc v8
I recently ran accross a 57 GMC with a factory V8 in it. Not wure what size motor or anything. The truck is all original with the exception to the paint. Someone has spray painted it black. The truck runs good...the only thing it needs to be put on the road is brakes and tires.
My questions is; how rare is this truck? The guy went on and on about how rare it is with a factory V8. He wants $2,000 for it. Is it really that rare? |
Re: 57 gmc v8
The engine would be a 347 Pontiac if it is original. I have owned a bunch of 50s and 60s Pontiacs and was very satisfied with them. I don't know how the GMC version differs from Pontiac car engines. One guess would be lower compression or a milder cam.
If the truck is rare, it is because it is a GMC, not because it is a V-8. I don't think V-8 GMCs are proportionately any scarcer than V-8 Chevys. IMO, a truly stock unmolested Chevy with no rust would be worth $2K, so the GMC price doesn't seem out of line. What transmission does it have? If it is a Hydra-matic, you know it is hard to find people who can work on them. Ray |
Re: 57 gmc v8
Still depends on the condition. If it's eaten up with rust I'd have to think about it. If it's 90 percent solid and he's got a title to boot I'd say it's worth 2000 easy. Just remember, GMC stuff is harder to find than the chevy stuff.
