Does anyone use Certafit for sheet metal?
 

Hey all,

This may be a dumb question, but does anybody use Certafit for replacement sheet metal? I had a friend tell me about them and they actually have a store location in OKC that is not too far. I have a '79 GMC Jimmy that Ive thought about fixing up, but it has alot of rust on it and lots of Bondo from the previous owner. I was looking on their website and I can get front and rear bumpers,hood, front fenders, grill, door shells, rockers, and floor pans for about $700. I thought that was pretty good for "new" metal. Has anyone used them? Are they quality? Will the stuff line up correctly?

I have some of their stuff @ home I bought for my project. I was turned onto them by another board member. I have not installed it yet but, was a good source of aftermarket parts instead of ordering them and paying for shipping. My local one stopped carrying rocker panels for some reason the last time I was up there

The important thing to remember when buying these aftermarket parts, is to be sure they are CAPA certified. Any sort of exterior panel like a fender,hood, door, bedside or a major piece like a core support or bumper, should always be CAPA certified. That simply means it has been tested and approved to (supposedly) perform the same in a collision as an OE part would.
Pieces like rocker panels and floors, I've never seen CAPA parts for them to be honest. We deal with aftermarket parts all the time since insurance companies love to use them instead of the real deal. They will not use a part though if it is not CAPA certified. Our supplier (Keystone automotive) has three levels of parts it seems. First is their normal CAPA only, next is the CAPA/AQRP/Platinum level parts (what we prefer) and then what the call their "Value" line, which is what they say most rebuilders and people who walk in off the street buy. Knowing how bad the CAPA stuff can fit at times, I'd shutter at the thought of how bad the Value line stuff fits. :lol:

It is called "sortafit" for a reason. I prefer good used over new aftermarket. Some people have a hard time understanding why I am looking and paying for NOS parts. They fit right.

The doors and fenders i got from "CERTIFIT" you spelled it wrong...lol :lol:

for my 86 ton fit perfect..They were stamped "GORDON" inside..Nice fit for aftermarket..and an even better price..

I did a 88 chevy 1500 years ago..i put bedsides,doors and fenders,support and grille all from them..had no problems then ..

If it a budget build ...go for it..Hey its a little lighter metal...so you get better gas mileage..

It seems hit and miss. They are nicknamed sortafit. A lot of there stuff I have seen fits decent. If you arent worried about a show quality restoration I say go for it. The price is definately right and you will save a ton in shipping on the big parts.

With the suburban I just scored off CL I wont be having to use any "Certifit" parts in the rebuild. Ill be using all original stuff.

I used them for the sheet metal for the front clip on my 75 truck. I have used their parts in the past with mixed results, sometimes the holes line up and sometimes they don't. On the 75, I used front fenders and inner fenders and the fit perfect, no holes had to be wallowed out. The parts do seem to be made out of lighter metal than the oem stuff, but they fit suprisingly well. If you buy them, they will let you remove the packaging to inspect them for damage, I highly recommend doing this, you may have to go through a few parts to get some without damages....I guess they just throw the stuff in the containers when they load them up in china.
