Re: help with rims

Older rims have oblonged holes and the wheel nuts center them so they fit most vehicles

Re: help with rims

Many of the 'universal' rims fit either 4 1/2" or 4 3/4", but NOT the 5" truck pattern. Check them with the correct lugs before you buy. Sunce the lugs go into the slots, if the stud is close to the end of the slot it may not work.

The lugs go thru the rim into the slots to center the wheel, and the top of the lug clamps a washer down on the wheel to hold it on. Make sure that you can get the correct lug length and pattern. If the lig bottoms on the hub/rotor/drum it will not clamp the wheel and it will eat the rims up quickly. If the lug is too short it will not have much contact patch in the slot and will want to chew up the rim.

Do NOT put them on the rear of a heavy big block vehicle with sticky tires. The local contact patch at the lugs tends to crack the wheels if you ever make it hook. Oh, and never try to do hard core cornering with them.

They make nice pretty wheels for cruising. We used many a set in the 70's on our low powered cruisers. But they are a big no-no for any serious power or racing.
