Craigslist Suburban Score (Update/Pics)
I'm pumped!
I just scored a complete 1980 suburban for $300!! Lil ole lady said she was driving it and it just quit running. I can't wait to pick it up. Don't know if I'll just get it running and play with it or use it as a donor to rebuild my dads 79 Jimmy. Good body, good interior, and most likely a good motor and tranny!!! http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/x...j/c0cf5e42.jpg http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/x...j/ba121c70.jpg |
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Watch out, those little old ladies are smarter than you think. ;) For $300 though, smokin' deal.
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Yeah I'd have gave $300 for it without a motor. It'll save me alot when I rebuild the Jimmy. I already had over a $1000 worth of stuff to buy from Certafit. This will save me a ton in the end. Hell I might even get it running and flip it.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
looks like a smokin deal to me! more pics?

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Those are the only two pics I have right now. Its gonna be crazy if it turns out to just be something simple like a fuel filter or something. I think its a freaking awesome deal since I can use almost all of it as parts if the motor is bad. Ive been staring at my dads old Jimmy for over two years now wanting to rebuild it, but Ive been kinda hesitant about it. He was driving the Jimmy home from a fishing trip when he had a massive heart attack and died. I had to drive it home later that night from the wrecker yard where it was towed to. Ive never done anything with it since that night when I parked it in the driveway. Ive tried to sell it thinking it would just be better if I got rid of it, but nobody wanted it so its stayed right there in the driveway.....looking at me every single day.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
That's a helluva good score! I hope you keep it and use it for parts on the Jimmy, mainly because the story behind the jimmy is a good one and I hope you keep it.
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
If you end up parting it out, I am looking for a few interior parts. Looks like it will make a great donor for your Jimmy!
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
If it really did just all of the sudden stop running check the HEI module sounds like that might be the cause.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
man I am jealous. That's a great score to find. I wish I could find something like that. congrats
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Nice...I don't think I could part out what so far looks like a rust free straight original burb. Good Luck with the project.
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
I may not use it for parts. I'm just going to have to go through it. If it was 4x4 I'd certainly keep it and put a 6" lift on it with some 35's!! I think the big bourbons and 3+3's look so cool lifted.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Let me know if you want to sell it :)
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Nice score.
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Whatever you do, DON'T get rid of that jimmy...You'll hate yourself for doing so later on down the road if you sell it...Can't say I've been in your situation, and hope to never have to be, but I know you don't wanna sell it. Really. Sorry about the loss...
On another note- The 'burban looks like a good find! I'd flip it if I were you |

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Nice score. Find out why it don't run and go from there you can't go wrong.
Only I could loose an a deal like that with my luck. I did two Fords and learned my lessons. Ford 1 was a bad engine that burned up from the PO who drove it with a BO trans that was stuck in low, ON THE FREEWAY! Ford 2 was a real nice 50k mile Tbird. Real nice leather interior too. Catalitic converters were so clogged it would not run. Cleaned them out and it had very low oil pressure. Typical 400in M engine it was shot with 50k miles. Good Demolition Derby car though. Lesson learned NO FORDS!!! |
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
That one looks really well optioned. Does it have the factory door panel mounted speakers in the front?

Re: CL Suburban score!!! (UPDATE PICS)
Hey all,
I got the burb picked up today. This this is amazing. It's completly original. Even the front bench still has the original cover on it with no rips or tears! It has the rear A/C in the back top area. I'd never seen one of those before, not that its special, I'd just never seen one. This burb is the same age as me! I can't wait to get it home to see if it will run. Even if the motor is blown, which I doubt, this thing is a gold mine! http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/x...j/d37f5d89.jpg http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/x...j/4a9ae28c.jpg |
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
man I wish I was in your shoes right now. great score!!!!

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Nice.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Hooked the jumper cables up to it just to give it some power, the battery is no good. All the lights work, even the dome light. The vent blows air and what suprised me was the rear A/C unit it the top of the back area blows to!! The power door locks work on the drivers side, but the passenger side seems to be binded up or stuck for some reason. Works by hand, but just clicks on the switch. The rear window switch on the dash didn't work for some reason. May be a fuse. I didn't spend much time with it. This was originally going to be a "parts donor" but I think it'd be foolish to tear apart such a nice original cream puff like this. Gonna get a battery, alt belt, fuel filter, plugs, wires, and see what she does. The paint is in great shape also.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
Nice score! Save it!!
|
Re: CL Suburban score!!!
I think the paint will buff up really nice. It's been sitting under a huge pecan tree for 4 yrs so it has some sap on it, but I got a rag with a little Honda polish and it shined up very well. This was a very good find.

Re: CL Suburban score!!!
