factory locking hubs

I thought I'd ask about the factory locking hubs on my GMC. Whenever I try to lock them in, the first one I lock makes one full turn, then kind of clicks and won't turn any more. The 2nd hub I'll then have to spin 8-9 x to get it to lock. This isn't side specific, the first one I lock in is always normal. This does lock the front axle, as one of the u-joints is bad and makes a horrible rattling whenever its in 4x4. I was just wondering what could make this happen...will I have to get new hubs? Thanks.

If it keeps turning it must be the turn knob is worn, cause it shouldn't keep turning around, maybe you need some new locking hubs,
