New guy here..........Starting another build
I just picked up this 64 Saturday for $500.00. It looks a lot worse than it really is. I am hoping to sell or trade my SS bed for a FS bed and do a total restoration. Gonna need a better hood for sure. It has been sitting since 1981. It should be tuns-of-fun, LOL.

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Good for you, that looks like a really straight truck to start with. The bed/fenders look cherry, shouldn't have any problem selling that for a good price. What power train does it have, or what is it going to end up with?

Thanks, it is very straight and solid. Right now it has the I6 with 3 on the tree. It will stay stock except for some chrome reverse wheels w/ baby moons. I also want to drop in a 283 and th350 if i can find one reasonable. I also have a 67-72 tilt column i plan on putting in. |
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Looks like it has some potential.....keep us posted on your progress.:)

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
cool, looks like a solid start...i think it would be a good candidate for that CLR treatment & leave the patina...good luck with the build!
|
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Nice, straight truck. Looks like a great one to "fix" up. I like keeping the patina idea.
Enjoy the build. Welcome to the board. Great people here. |
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Thanks guys. I am one for originality so this truck will make a good canidate for that. However, I am gonna need a hood & RF fender. I am also looking to trade my complete SS bed for a Fleetside bed. Once this is done i will off and running.

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
A white Scotchbrite pad & some decent cleaner will make a world of difference w/the surface rust.

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Thanks guys. I am really looking forward to tearing it down and rebuilding it. I do have to wait for my dad to build us a new shop at his house though. My wife will cut my throat if i start another project in my garage next to her new car. Most women just don't understand us guys and our trucks, LOL.

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
nice project.gotta love that cool factory paint or whats left of it.

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Well, I got a fleetside bed for it today and a 1964 all original 283 out of a truck. The engine is complete and all stock right down to the air cleaner. I am very pleased with these items. I will be hooking the 283 up to my original 3-speed and probably drop in a floor shifter.

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
That's one hell of a find!!! (especially for $500)
Keep us posted with progress and pics. |
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Thanks RED. Once i start the build i will be posting pics and such. If the temps would stay below 5000 degrees for a while i would start on it, LOL.

That looks like a good truck to start with. I love the heat!

Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Well, I finally got started on my build. It is slow but it is started, LOL. So far i have installed a 86 front suspension and rear end. Next will be running brake lines, fuel lines, mating the steering shaft from 86 to my 64, installing motor mounts and sway bar. Hopefully after that it will be time for blast and paint.
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...n/100_0811.jpg Here is my steering sector install. Instead of using a conversion plate i decided to cut the frame from the 86 and mold it into my 64 frame so everything will be exact on the steering geometry. It turned out really nice i think. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ethvin/1-1.jpg |
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
That is exactly what I was going to do. I know without it it seems the truck turns more to the left then the right, and I have afeeling this is why. With the spacers in there the box is farther away and when it is farther away it has to give somewhere.
|
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
Yes, using the spacers will throw it off slightly and since i am a very "nit picky" kind of person i wanted it to be perfect. This way really allows you to line everything up true and straight.
|
Re: New guy here..........Starting another build
I take it you didn't take any during picture... I would like to know where you cut.
