Does anyone recognize this steering wheel and are they available?

It is on a 72 truck and I like the looks of it.

Any comments?

Jim

Jim,
Grant makes them. I "think" it's a model 969 or something like that.

JimKshortstep4x4 02-19-2003 09:51 AM

I will check out Grant.

Thanks,

Jim

What's the diameter of that wheel? It looks great.

JimKshortstep4x4 02-19-2003 01:33 PM

I don't know the diameter of the wheel. I got the pic off of e-bay.
The steering wheel is on a nice short box truck.

Here is the link.

LMC has the wheels at $100 plus $20 for the installation kit.

Grant must make them but I have not looked it up yet.

They retail for about $70. I think the diameter is about 16.5".

JimKshortstep4x4 02-19-2003 02:14 PM

Are you saying that LMC's price is on the high side?

Do you know who has them for $70?

it looks alot like the deluxe wheel for the late 60's early 70's cutlass, 442, gto, chevelle, etc..

70c10 02-19-2003 02:19 PM

Jim. Yes LMC marks these same wheels up. I bought my Grant at Pep Boys. Try Auto zone etc. They can special order at no extra charge.

JimKshortstep4x4 02-19-2003 02:49 PM

I will try Autozone. Thanks for the tip.

thats actually a 69 chevy cushion grip wheel, not the lmc one or aftermarket its also used in 69 to about 77 vettes,in black.colored ones actually came in buicks the small skyhawks.the wheel is about $159 the hub about $40,the horn contact is $20,and the cap about $30(that one there is a buick cap, with a bowtie on it it looks like)pep boys wont have that one but they have one thats similar.I use them on every vehicle i have by picking them up at swapmeets, junkyards.they are getting tough to find in the 69 Chevys they were a option, standard in the vettes, and a option in the buicks.the 4 spokes are found in some Olds starfires, and they are in upto 77 Oldsmobiles.once in a while i sell them on ebay 4 spokes always fetch $125 or upto $250 for a nice black one 3 spokes usually $75 up to $150 for a nice black one.there on ebay all the time type in 3 spoke steering wheel,or chevy 3 spoke sport wheel.

That would be an understatement :) LMC's price is high on EVERYTHING - guess they have to pay for that beautiful catalog somehow!

jerry moss 02-19-2003 09:54 PM

Jim,
i run that same wheel ,with a diffrent horn cap, on my trucks and they do look nice. but, like D.R. said, they are getting tough to locate in wrecking yards and swap meet sellers thimk they have the only one G.M. ever produced. you can buy repops but they're not cheap either.

jamie72 02-20-2003 08:39 PM

desert rat,i got a 4 spoke its got the numbers 9758389,on the back side of one of the spokes, any ideas what it come off of???
its only like a 14 inch wheel, and its black.
thanks

Thanks for all of the replies!

At least I know what to look for.

Desert Rat 02-21-2003 09:05 AM

Hi does it look like my one in the picture? yours isnt the fullsize olds one they are a larger diameter the olds starfires(the monza looking cars)came with them also i dont have any small ones right now just the large diameter they are number9751836,they are from the 442s and optional wheel on some of the Cutlass' my guess is you have the smaller car one,if it looks like that in the pic.actually i looked through them i have a 989 out of a starfire but its red,and im sure theres a diff part number for black, best thing would be post a pic but your part number IS a GM steering wheel.does it have the horn button with the Olds insignia in the middle?

JimKshortstep4x4 02-21-2003 09:53 AM

I think the black one on the right of your pic is the one. at least it looks like it.

I am going over to look at one tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.

Jim

jamie72 02-21-2003 04:28 PM

desert rat,
the one i got looks like the bottom middle wheel in your pic,all i got is the wheel no cap.
thanks

Desert Rat 02-21-2003 04:42 PM

Yes if you have the one in the bottom middle but its 14" then you have the small Olds starfire ones(the little Monza styled car one).I have a couple red ones,2 large black, and a blue.I dont have any of the small black right now,i prefer the large ones ive had problems with the small tilt shift handle hitting them, when the tilt is up.

jamie72 02-21-2003 08:53 PM

thanks desert rat...
