cross over steering
 

My Xover steering is coming together OK. I got a pitman arm from a 70s fullsize jeep something. Im a little tight on clearance, about 1/4 inch, but I plan on trying it untill I can find a wrangler pitman arm. What do yall think?

Here is the right side steering arm from Shakerbuilt. I got the arm and stud kit for $110 delivered. Tim tapered the hole to fit the large tie rod end. Same size as the drag link ends.

Looks good. I have to do the same thing. Is that a d44 or a corp 10bolt? Did you already have the flat top knuckle or did you have to swap one in?

You need a better pitman arm.
Order a Superlift #1104 - it's less than $50 from 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers. It is dropped a fair amount and is very beefy. It will clear the frame MUCH better.

I bought a Dana 60 xover steering arm from Tim and it rocks - I'm glad you like your arm too. He does good stuff.

What are you doing about the crossmember? Clearancing it?

TX Mudder, Thanks man I'll check it out. Tim recommended some 70s Ford trucks too. I got my draglink from him today. Looks great. I really like dealing with him.
No clearance problem on the xmember. 67-72s had thiers further back in the frame. You can barely see mine behind the old bumpstop.
Checked out your site, tough lookig truck.
Dale, its a 1970 44 but the knuckles were newer. And yes they were flat top.

Tha's a write up on ram assist, but in the opening pic you can see the pitman arm clearly. It's the same one I have, the 1104.

The problem with a junkyard Ford ones are that even IF you find one that offers an OK amount of drop, you still have to have it reamed. The 1104 has the proper ream, the rights splines for the 2wd steering box, and has good drop. And all for less than $50.

Good luck with finishing the crossover - I think you'll really like it.

That is a stout arm. I might have to get one.
I got a reamer(impersonating a rich person on the internet one night). hehe
Was thinking about going with the bigger tie rod ends for the the knuckles too. Just have to buy the tubing and left hand tap.

6869704x4, your gonna love the crossover steering, it's so much better than stock, you'll feel the difference first time out.

how much lift do you need to run the crossover. i have about 3" now, is that enough.

I would think 3" inches is enough. Thats 4" on mine.
